Hi BJ, we are picking our Expanda up in 4 weeks the exact same as yours and was wandering what you use for a ladder if one is needed! I was looking at the 3 step squeeze box ladder!

Hi @Nagga's

Sorry but don't fully follow. Ladder to do what? I don't need a ladder for anything, but then I am 6' 3"! The only thing I could see you possibly needing a ladder for if you are vertically challenged would be the roof catches but that's about it and even then probably for most people a single step would suffice I would think.

Thanks for that BJ, it's funny because the outback and the tourer have the same mount but a different bar, might get a friend to weld up a new rear bar for the van.

Well called into Coast to Coast today for one thing and came out with about three other things. One of them being another dinette table rail. Am going to put onto the outside of the van so that we can take the table outside when we want to. Was a butt load cheaper than one of the fixed outside tables (around $40).

BJ

Just wondering, if you do that mod with the table, if your table is like mine, will uneven ground outside be a problem. I know those proper outside fold down tables are dear as poison but they are handy. I have seen them on ebay at good prices sometimes.

Cheers Geoff

Hi @macca , yes it will mean I may need a block of timber or two under the leg, but I usually have some with me anyway so am not too concerned.

Here are some pics of all the things wired up.

Anderson plug for portable folding solar panel.

Inverter, charger, drifter and solar controllers/remotes all connected and working.image.jpg

Tidied up the bloody mess that Jayco call wiring in the battery compartment. You can't see one side of the fuse box, but also have the solar reg and a couple of other items on the opposite side to what can be seen here (hidden by the water tank pipes).

I have been inspired by the recent updates on a replacement bumper. We used 50x50 and this fits into the bumper housing on my 16.49.3. Attached are photos of the new bumper in my trailer going off to be powder coated. The small piece in the trailer is to be bolted at the bottom of the uprights and a pin to hold it upright. It is the part which the spare is attached to.

Yet to use it but we always free camp and "live" outside so don't really use inside too much unless it is raining. Hopefully making board up so don't have to use the inside table this weekend.

Also a hell of a lot cheaper than the fold down outside type. If I put one on now I would have the issue with the decals so went this way instead.

Well have to do a big plug for eBay store - AUTOELACAU...
As in the above posts (somewhere) I installed a Projecta 25 amp charger.

Well went out to the van weekend before last to find the safety switch on the Ampfibian had tripped. Flicked it and it tripped immediately. Sussed around inside and found that the charger had died - completely had it.

Contacted Adam at Autoelecau via eBay as was not sure of the process as is 20 months old (purchased it before I got the van). Well got a reply within 24 hours advising to post down and will look at it and if faulty would replace. Did that and within a week had a brand new replacement on my doorstep!

Not affiliated with the store at all, just a very impressed customer.
This has ensured will have no hesitation in going through them in the future.

Good to hear @Bmhdg76 as I have used AUTOELECAU several times but fortunately (Touching Wood) I haven't had the need to return anything!

So tidying things up around the house today and found where I stashed away my GME UHF TX4400 radio. Now I am not going to put it into this car (a) because I plan to get rid of it in the next 12 - 18 months so am not wanting to put any holes on the dash etc. And (b) it is only a 40 channel radio.

The next car we get I will put a new radio into it, so as I will get bugger all for this one figured I might as well put it into the van to use a comms for when at camp etc.

Now my question is: would there be any issue putting this in the van and having a stainless steel flat plate held on with U bolts onto the rear bumper? Our van does not have rear fold down beds so will be able to be left there the whole time.

This is where I am thinking.

Hi BJ,

Just make sure you put something like plastic/ rubber or tape between the galvanised steel and the stainless steel as zinc (the galvanized finish) is very cathodic to stainless steel and it will accelerate the corrosion of the galvanized finish. other than that cant see a problem.

i have a 14.4.4 as well and might use that outside table idea. great job.

No that's not me. We still have the gal one.
I had no idea that the different metals would react like that.
I wonder if would be simpler then with the worry of different metals to get a tab welded onto the bar.
The metal on the base of the antenna mount is stainless so how could I get around that? Or is it just chrome plated?
The antenna really needs to be on metal for grounding so putting something between the bracket and the bar would defeat the purpose.

@Bmhdg76 Not sure what aerial you have but I think you'll find it is more than likely chrome plated. (Put a magnet on it and if it doesn't "stick" then it is stainless..... Unless it's a low quality stainless!!!!!)

Not sure about receiving/sending message forward of the van as most aerials rely on line of site. No harm in trying it out though as only using for comms close to the camp site. Maybe fit it all up temporarily and see how it works before mounting permanently.
