well, a smallish update
my Patrol is the DX (poverty pack)
(think Belmont - DX, Kingswood - ST, Premier - TI)
I replaced the back seats ages ago for my daughter, she now has the ST seats (flash as a rat version,
(they have drink holders in the arms in the centre, the DX does not have the centre arms at all and are very uncomfortable)
as we do a lot of long distance driving, I wanted a more comfortable seat for myself and SWMBO
I would dearly LOVE a set of Recaro or similar, but cannot see the Value in $2400 seats (both front) in a $20K car................
thats 2 sets of tyres for crying out loud...............
so I have been looking for ages for a set of the ST seats for the front - they have lumbar support as well as adjustable seat bottom (unlike the crappy DX version, with NO adjustment anywhere) and they are as rare as rocking horse poop
or the people selling them want crazy money - think close to the same as a set of Recaro's................ madness

now comes the big problem...........
do I get the padding re-newed (drivers seat is a little flattish)and then fit them (was quoted about $150 each once before by a trimmer
or
fit them, and worry about the padding later..........because as is they are way more comfortable than what I have

Many many moons ago I did similar in the FJ55, the flash buckets I fitted needed a bit of padding refurbishment, I removed the cover and added some foam I moulded to the raised bits that were flattened then placed an extra bit underneath the seat cushion, replaced cover and was like a bought one. You want reasonable density foam some zip ties and spray glue.

yeah, my old '55 I fitted 200B seats, very nice
only about 6 months ago, I was quoted $150 each on my seats, as the covering was ok, just the foam stuffed (hahahahaha)
I have watched many many car shows, and seen how they re-do the seats, but I dont think I am quite that gifted.........

I am leaning towards dropping them off to be re-foamed..........
It's not too bad but cutting the foam nicely can be a bit frustrating (other words do come to mind) and now thinking about the few seats that I've done, using an upholsterer is probably a wise choice..............I even made up and fitted a new roof lining for the old FJ and will never ever do that again, turned out good but the box of matches was looking attractive a few times.
You may be onto something there @achjimmy on another inspection of the seats, the Passenger one does not look to bad..............
the biggest bugga is having to remember HOW I wired up the DVD head rests.........
and
will I re-fit them..........

Well, I had a good long look at the seats given to me…… about 9.00am Saturday
Velour, very nice, a bit dirty, and the runners were ground off……….
1) Drivers seat is not as bad as mine, only a little warn…….
2) I understand why they were free, my mate had to cut bits of the runners off (and he didn’t cover the seats to protect the velour)……..
3) Passenger seat looks like its not been sat on much
OK, as @Marv_mart and @achjimmy and @dagree said, if I didn’t get the bases re-foamed, I probably never would, well, they were hardly warn, so, I’m taking the chance that they will be ok - you win fellas...............

Ummm, how did I wire up the DVD head rests…..????
Oh, yeah, that’s right, the centre console got broken last time when I put the DVD’s in……. must try and get another one – one day –
“who is the useless tosser that made the cables soooooo short, I cannot get my fat fingers in there…..”
So after much pulling, prodding, twisting, pushing, I get the centre console out – snapped the wiring to the on/off switch for the DVDs to get it out
DOH…… that’s right, those 5 screws undo the back of the console, and I can get into the wiring…DOH
Right, the power is now off for the DVD’s, lets see.. ah yes, I have to pull the backs of the seats apart to get the wiring inside the seats……. Sheeeesh
Right, all done and dusted, lets un-bolt the seats and remove them, and have a good look at the runners…….
Bugga me with a big stick, you have to nearly pull the whole seat apart to get to the 3 bolts for the runners (insert rather long swear word……..)
Right oh, seat runners now changed, time to clean under where the seats were…..
Hmmmm, so that’s where my coffee goes when I spill it driving to work…. Bugga – out with the spray N wipe…. Lucky my car is the DX (povo pack) variety – vinyl flooring… WIN for a change
Vacuum the carpet mats, vacuum the “sand grabba mats”, put the seats in, put the carpet mat in, and put the sand mats in.
Tidy tools and put away Vacuum cleaner

Job done – look at that, its 2.30pm……………
