Hi All

Looking at diesel heaters for the Starcraft 17.58-3 and wondering if the Eperspacher D2 is powerful enough? Trying to determine if a 2kw unit will do the trick or something bigger is required.

Cheers
We have that model heater in a Work n Play which is about that size van but with more open space due to the open plan rear and no troubles warming it up. Ours is mounted up front and even with only one vent pointed to the rear for the hot air it has to be turned down quite a bit or it gets too hot. Even being from the tropics and liking warmth we set it to just idling at around 18 Deg and it coped with -4. We only have one expanda unit up the front but we don't have it opened up as we sleep in the rear for cold weather but see no reason why with more vents or operated at a higher output temperature it wouldn't cope anyway for a pop top or expanda. How toasty warm do you need to be?

I have purchased a Planar 2kw heater for our 17-58-3 after speaking with @greynt who has the same unit in his 17-58-3 and is very happy with it.

Hi @megcam. Im usually a little reluctant to discuss my love affair with the single greatest invention known to mankind.

I installed the Eberspacher D2 in our 20.63.1. Opened up, the van is around 24ft, with one not very thermally efficient tent hanging off the end.

We have 2 ducts, centrally located under the couch with one duct blowing foward, the other toward the rear. The D2 heats our behemoth very, very easily.

In the period we like to call "The Pre Eberspacher Days", we were at the group meet in Nagambie and the tempertures plummeted to zero our Ibis aircon went into a cold induced coma at around 5deg and it was not pleasant. The blow heater struggled to keep the van over around 13deg

We were very lucky we'd a blow heater in the van for the bathroom or im sure we'd all be dead.

@Cindy had a D2 in their double ended 20ft Expanda. I walked into their van, they had one duct at the front, and the van was nauseatingly hot, the chicken sitting on the chicken bench was slowly cooking! .... we drove home Sunday afternoon and i ordered the Eberspacher Monday morning.

We're currently sitting in a freecamp outside Busselton, shhhh, doing school work with the Cruskett. It was 12deg when we woke up. Hit the button on the Eberspacher and within 20min or so the whole van is a comfortable 20deg

Its the most effecient, comfortable, simple heater. Once youve had one you cant go back.

The cheaper units such as the Planar get great reviews and are much much cheaper. We decided on the Eberspacher firstly because that was the one that impressed me, and secondly its computer controlled ... set and forget.

I also spoke to Dometic tech support during the install about some install question i had, and he mentioned the Ebersparcher is one of the only products they rarely ever get back for warranty.

Its true worth, like the Planar, is it works exactly the same, off the grid in the middle of nowhere. We occasionally put it on when we've stopped for lunch

My tips, put the fuel tank as close to the car filler, and the heaters fuel pump away from your bed. I sleep like a corpse, but like The Princess the dose pumps monotonous clicking may well drive you mad

I have the Planar 2kw. With 1 x vent.
Wish I got the directional vent, may retrofit it in the future.
Biggest issue for me was where to put the fuel.

Love the heat, especially when it gets so cold your water lines freeze.

Thanks @Crusty181 & @17triton. I have in principle approval from the minister for finance to install a heater for our upcoming winter trip to Camerons Corner. A nasty incident some years ago at Mt Moffat where we awoke with ice on the inside roof of our soft floor camper and children cried because 'it's too cold' has dampened my family's enthusiasm for camping in the colder months. Anyway was thinking Planar based on price alone but saw this last night http://www.heatso.com/eberspacher-a...-heater-kit/?gclid=CIeTlKSxkssCFQF_vQodr_cCbw at under $1000 + shipping. @Crusty181 I think I read somewhere that you were somwhat satisfied with the performance of the Eberspacher but wanted to make sure a 2.2kw was up to the task.

Don't ask Crustycon about his heater, the internet will jam up............................................Winter time we can be found somewhere North of Barcaldine and south of Cape York.....
