I remember when I first borrowed my parents first van years ago my dad had made up a short, maybe 500mm lead with a 10a male plug and a 15a female on the other end, just so he could plug in at home.
The van didn't have a battery and it was only used to run the fridge for a day or two before they set off. It did look a bit dodgy.

When I built my garage to keep the van in I had the sparky instal a 15a GPO on its own circuit, just for the van.
We have had friends stay overnight in the van here at home and this enables them to use the A/C or heater, depending on the time of year.

We never use it to stay in at friends houses so an amp-fibian is not really necessary for us, but I totally agree with everyone else.
240v can kill, don't take any chances.

Cheers,
Matty

The rv-01 is not legal in qld so we have the rv-02. We paid $265 at the local caravan shop in ipswich.

Really? Even if your van already has an RCD? Can't we be trusted now to know what's safe - sounds like Nanna Bligh to me. Campbell wouldn't give a rats!

Something to do with the standards up here. If you look at their website you'll notice the rv-01 isnt there as a result of this. I imagine in our insurance company's eyes we'd be doing something wrong and void our insurance with the rv-01. It is apparently fine in other states.

So it's insurance then and not government regulation?

Yes it is fine in Victoria which surprises me somewhat. Everything here is either illegal or compulsory. Funny thing is I spend quite a bit of time in QLD and I always thought that you lot were pretty good in the common sense department, sliding in just behind the NT, although running equal second now that speed limits have been introduced. (Funny thing is it hasn't made one bit of difference to the road toll!)
