We are up here at Kakadu at the moment and the 3 way is performing flawlessly in heat up to 38°C today, beers are cold as cold, food is fresh and lettuce crisp. Engel in the tug as a deep freeze for the meat. 12V works a treat while travelling and gas while free camping, we couldn't be happier, cheers.

We have a Dometic RM2553 frig. Does anyone know what the amp draw is on 12volt? I'm trying to work out how long a 100ah battery may last.

I'm also going to get a dual battery put in the tug and use my 40L engel as the drinks frig.

Having had experience of both types of fridge ( Absorption and Compressor) in caravan and motor home and having researched the subject very thoroughly it must be said that even though the new tropical rated absorption fridges are streets ahead of their predecessors, thay are still second when it comes to actual consistency and recovery rates as against a properly installed compessor fridge. The main determining factor in choice is the application and intended use. If free camping is on the itinerary, then absorption is far easier and better than trying to attach large banks of solar panels and equivalent large battery bank. Just exercise some parental control and ban the kids from the fridge. Simple!!

The other part that's oftem overlooked with the compressor fridges is the noise. In the Expanda we slept right next to the fridge and I couldn't imagine sleeping in the dead of night with the compressor humming.
