Limp mode seems to be more common now on newer cars, not just the nissans. There is so much electronic wizardry that when something is wrong, it shuts down, but leaves enough for you to get to a dealer. (then they don't need to send one of their roadside service tray trucks out to you) However many, including the nissans can be reset on the side of the road if left to sit for half and hour or so then simply restarting (if it isn't a major problem).

The first time we experience limp mode I turned the car off, opened the bonnet and scratched my head looking for some issue with fuel flow. Found nothing so turned the key and it started with no limp mode.
After that we had the same thing happen but now we knew how to make it go away. Pull over and turn car off and on again and we were ok to go again.
