Limp mode seems to be more common now on newer cars, not just the nissans. There is so much electronic wizardry that when something is wrong, it shuts down, but leaves enough for you to get to a dealer. (then they don't need to send one of their roadside service tray trucks out to you) However many, including the nissans can be reset on the side of the road if left to sit for half and hour or so then simply restarting (if it isn't a major problem).
