I am getting my 12 pin plug fitted this week to replace my 7 pin, I understand that this is for the bigger fridge in the Expanda.... Will this also charge the 12 v battery in the caravan??

Yes it will but only if thevtug is wired correctly it should also be wired via a solinoid or ingnition to stop the fridge killing the tug battery

They did say that they will put a switch in the car. should i ask them to make sure it is wired to charge the battery also. They did ask if it was for a Jayco ?

Jayco wanted me to put a 12pin for when our new van comes as we were told they won't do 7pin /Anderson . Our 150ltr fridge runs great through the Anderson pug in our currant setup and we have other trailers that are 7 pin so I made up a 12pin to 7pin/Anderson adaptor cable should work fine

Jayco offered to change things around for us, in the end I decided to keep the van standard and set the car up with the 12 pin, job being done tomorrow...

Hi,
I had a 7 pin only on my Swan, running the 90l fridge and charging the battery through a single hotwire. I successfully in the end melted the pin. The 7 pin is only rated to 15 amp each. I believe the bottom 5 pins on the 12 pin are rated to 35 amp. Anyway changed to the 12 pin on the Swan and all good.

When I got my Expanda, it required two hot wires running through the 12 pin plug.
One hot wire runs the Fridge only (150lt)
The other hot wire is for the rest of the 12v electrics/lights and recharge the battery.
End up running a second set of wires through the vehicle for the fridge using 6mm wire, I used a voltage sensing dual battery isolator to stop it killing the Tug battery when stopped.

Overall I am much happier with the 12 pin setup.

Have a similar setup 12mm to run fridge (150L) whilst car is running and 6mm charging battery (dual 100ah with solar). The fridge is not connect to the caravan battery so its really only a 12v when connected to the car. 12 pin works fine but one thing I note is that when towing a trailer on the 7 pin part I have an indicator on the dash telling me the trailer indicators are working. This doesn't function when the van is hooked up? And yes the van indicators work.

Maybe something to do with the van indicators being LED?

I got the 12 pin fitted and it also has a relay (not sure what that is for) what i didn't see was a switch to switch the the fridge off when the car and vans are parked to stop draining the battery... Is this normal ??

With mine the Fridge only draws power when the car ignition is on. Ignition off all off.

The relay is usually switched by the ignition so that when the ignition is switched on, power will be supplied to your fridge circuit and when you turn the engine off the fridge circuit is broken so no power to fridge so battery will not go flat.

Thanks guys.... When I had my old car and had a 7 pin, they put a wire in to charge the fridge but it had a switch... i guess with the relay there is no need for a switch?

Im getting mine done with a 7 pin flat and a anderson plug. With the Land Rover I require a led converter for the lights on the van so I have no choice. I worked fine with our 2012 swan outback.

Thanks, I spoke to the guys that fitted the 12 pin and they confirmed that the fridge will not get power when the ignition is off...
