Hi people's after a accident (not my fault) my for 2009 sr5 Hilux vs truck (6months old)I'm looking at getting a a new rig I'm looking at a 100 series 4.2td or a 76 series 2011
The 100 has comfort lots of room for the kids (car seats) but 8-10 years older compared to the 76 seams a bit tight in the back for the kids plus leg room, ride no mod cons ie cruise control
But it's a v8 turbo diesel and they look tuff as hell and 8-10 years newer so I'm just after some pros and cons to help me make my mind up
Cheers

76 is uncomfortable and not very fuel efficient, revs its guts out at 100. Pros it is live axle, has a bucket load of torque, enough to pull the titanic onto dry dock from where it lays.

100, exceptionally comfortable, better ride quality, better fuel economy, quieter to drive, cheaper to get parts for, cheaper insurance and rego. Cons, have a weak front diff and the earlier IFS was prone to
cracking when lifted.

My choice would be the 100.

The ride and comfort quality is a big one for the family but all I can think is the v8 full noise up the bush hunting might make the harsh ride, noise and bad fuel economy disappear

With a good chip and exhaust the 100's sound pretty good, nothing will match the note of the V8 though. Another positive of the 76 is you will make your chiropractor rich

I've had my 100 series TD IFS auto since new (2002) and have been using it for everything from hard core 4x4, outback touring, city driving, towing a horse float and more recently as the Expanda tug.

It has a 50mm lift and a DPChip.

Since chipping it pulls the 21.64-1 with ease (3 tonnes). Uses 23l/100 towing and has been a fantastic vehicle.

I'm looking at upgrading to a 200 series in another 12 months or so, but would certainly recommend the 100

Great to hear trying to tell the missis about the 100 series but all she can hear is $30000+ for a 10-13 year old car
