i know ive read this somewhere but cant find the thread- i am going to purchase a front shade screen (14ft) for xmas. Can this stay attached to the roll out awning when packing up?

I would say no, but never tried, I think it would make the rolled awning to fat and prevent the awning arms closing propley.
My thoughts as well. There is no way the awning would close with all the extra material in it. And you would lose your pull out cord in the roll. 
There's only one way to find out though isn't there?
Been there done that, dont do it. Its much like getting a brides nighty off on the wedding night, get all tangled up and no one else to help you get out of it. LOL. Pace.
I had such a different image to this problem before that post of your pace.
I would have thought you run the risk of any residual dye running out of the shade when wet and rolled up.
