Afternoon all,

Does anyone have a "key lock box" or "key safe" mounted on the outside of their van?

We are going to put one on with both a (spare) car key, the van door key and an access hatch key (just in case we need to get into a broken door).

Has anybody used one they are happy with?

Thinking it would also be handy when we "hit the beach" so we don't need to take keys with us

we have a magnetic one with a spare caravan key we use now and then.
Hide up under chassis or step.

Got it after the door locked itself. Later found it was how the put the door frame in :)
Magnetic works well as maybe left it out and did a few big trips :)

Not sure a better secured one with a combo lock secured under be safer

We've been using this for many years, which we just lock it to the step as you mentioned so we don't have to carry keys and valuables to the beach or when we go for a walk. It's also really handy so each of us can return to the van independently and still get inside. We also have a fixed electronic safe in the van for the car keys, wallets, phones etc.

We have spare van keys in the car, and spare car key in the safe in the van. If we get stiffed with both at the same time .... Ill work that out when it happens. The bed end canvas just unscrews, and finding a screwdriver is easier and cheaper than a locksmith

An entire wall of my van is a canvas and flysmesh bag, aside from looking very odd, the bloke with 2 x hammers has grabbed the wrong tools to break into my van.

Ha, I remember thinking that once when I was looking for a secure key stowage with the 14, had a good laugh to myself...............

Once upon a time someone lost their key, door was locked and was required to use the spare Camec key available in a Leatherman, insert in lock, turn all good also works on side access hatches as well ............................ key as issued when found still worked, someone had stuck it in a safe place, namely a fob pocket.....
(I should point out having done a bit of a locksmithing apprenticeship is required or you may chew the lock)

For great analysis on lock security you can't go past 'lockpickinglawyer' on youtube. My favorite clip is an expensive safe he opens in seconds with a simple magnet
