Hi All,

Should be taking delivery of our Swan OB sometime around September, my dealer informs me that you really don't need an aerial for the TV as quote "you really cant get reception anyway"

What are you guys doing for the aerials?

Cheers

That's a ridiculous thing for a dealer to say!

There are areas where you won't get reception but there are also a lot that you will but only if you have the antenna to start with. If you haven't got one in the order I'd be adding one unless you plan on setting up a satellite system.

..............Salesman was talking from somewhere but not his mouth I reckon.......what you need is an aerial which will receive horizontal and vertical transmissions.....the reason why folks get no signal is because the signal is vertical..and it is pretty common outside the city nowadays
.A Saturn is a good all round one for vans that works well on either and everyone I've met raves about them .....http://saturnantennas.com.au/
TV transmission is either UHF or VHF so a dedicated van type aerial is better as it's more compact but they usually have a booster fitted...
App for phone "My Switch", is very handy to have as it will tell you where to point your aerial and it's polarity, it will even show you where to point the sat dish .
I have a Jacks aerial and it is great on horizontal but pretty ordinary on vertical sig's, my old aerial I could pull a pin and turn it upright but this one's too hard so I set up the Vast Sat Dish.

Was thinking aerial on a pole in the jockey wheel holder or some sort of attachment to the roof rack before I raise it
Had that sort of arrangement with the Penguin, a real pain in the a... to set up, point in the right direction and tune.
Ended up with lots of talking thru the widow etc, etc.
ended up with the wind up aerial in the Panda, never looked back.
Should be doable on a wind up but definitely on a pop-top.
Yes, have amplifier turned on but usually get quite good reception when in towns, not when free camping but then we just use the 12V tv to play videos.

with my old Flamingo, I lashed out and brought one of these
damn good product
just found this if your interested

worked really good, the 2 times I used it
didnt have to yell through the window, as it has a small motor & remote for tuning

had more fun setting it up and playing with it than using it

so I never bothered after that, dont tend to watch TV when we are away
