Why a 3500kg tow rating may not really be a 3500kg tow rating

Thought I would share this, one of the guys had shared this on Facebook. It gives a factual easy to understand explanation of tow weights and the potential implications of vehicles like the Ranger not really having a 3500kg tow weight.

BOTH are proven 3.5t towing vehicles

Agreed. This is why I want a Ranger to tow a 2800kg van.

I see heaps of Prados towing vans I know have tares very close to or about 2400kg, so loaded they exceed 2500kg for sure. Then there's the Falcons and Commodores.......

Folks who buy Landcruisers to tow a 3500kg van get a shock when they have to pay more to do what Toyota promised in the first place. False advertising......from a car manufacturer, surely not!

Did all of these calcs for my Cruiser in preparation for our trip. I can only have a towball load of around 280kg max because of the load in the car. Any future van upgrade is going to have to be well balanced!

very good reading thanks for that waiting in anticipation for the ford Everest towing my 1756-2 2500kg outback 500kg more towing than my prado has got to be better but will look more when it comes out
