We have just unslung the axle on our 2008 14.44 Expanda just to give us a bit more clearance.

It is also due for new tyres (195/70r15 stock) so looking for advice on going bigger.

Should we keep the standard alloy wheels and just go for a 215/70r15 or would it be better to buy 16" wheels and bigger tyres.

It has a 6 stud hubs and what I'd say is 12" brakes - as there's not much clearance with the current wheels. I did notice when moving the axle that it has an 'Off Road' sticker on the inside of the backing plate.

With my 14.44 I put the axle under the springs, gave me about 80mm lift, since I found the original rims were only 900kg LR I went for some ROH steel rims, 15" but wider and higher LR, not sure about the size but 225/235 in a LT spec, in the end I didn't like the spring set up so replaced the whole suspension, new springs new hangers, it was a way better vehicle then ...................... Details and pics should be in my 14.44 thread https://expandasdownunder.com/threads/drovers-14-44-3.4502/ about page 7

I think when I measured everything up 16" was a bit too much and the 15" Nissan rims I fitted allowed about 25-30mm clearance between chassis and tyre side wall, you really wouldn't want to be any closer.................... Didn't like the original alloy Thailand rims one bit and at only a 900kg LR not really high enough for my liking, the steel rims were mine rated so would handle far more stress.

Decided on MaxTrek SU-800 225/75R15C. They're also load rated at 110 so plenty of headroom.

While I'm waiting for the tyres to come in, I decided to give the wheels a clean. One thing led to another and 5 hours later I have one done. I quite like the design of the originals, but they needed updating.

Well we bit the bullet and bought new wheels as I found we had odd wheels when cleaning up the originals.

I bought 15" Huntsman wheels and wrapped them in 225/75R15C MaxTrek SU-800 tyres.

At first they looked huge but now that they're fitted it looks the goods.

I'll post a decent photo when I get a chance.
