We have a 16.49-3 outback expanda 2011. Can anyone answer a very basic question for us. We do not know how to switch from one tank of water to the other when one is empty. Do you have to use one tank then the other or can you use equally from both tanks to be balanced? Any instructions for the water tanks at all would be great. Thank you.

There should be a valve with a white arrow to indicate water flow along your clear hoses alongside the tanks Usually near the front tank under your floor visible from outside (offside) only.

Arrows point to respective flow, I think face up is both simultaneous and down isolates both.....could be the over way round.

Hope that helps.

Not sure on the 16's but ours has a tap on the hose that connects them under the van, I would assume yours would be the same. Its been that long since i looked at it I can't remember where it is now, but I'm sure someone will be along shortly to advise you.

When you do find it and try drawing from one tank or the other or both, it can change the way the van handles when driving. On ours, I find if I have both tanks full, I will then use the rear tank first rather than equally from both. I found that the van felt more stable on road then. If used front then van became light on the ball and tended to sway more.

It's just something to be mindful of and will vary from van to van, but try and see what suits if this is something you hadn't thought of.

BJ.

Sorry to bump an old thread..
We had our selector facing I think up or down although it only took from the front tank which is now empty.
If I turn to the rear it takes from the rear tank. Although now if I try up or down it takes nothing.
Would this be as the front tank is empty.. Or something setup incorrectly as it only seemed to take from the front tank.

We had problems away where we had no water from the mains.. Well it did then stopped. then started then stopped. Only use the water for sink and coffee so removed the mains and used tank water.. Then noticed the front tank empty :(
With the mains yes I checked the tap and hose, after the first day I just used the tank water.
