After so many nights in the van and packing up hoses it about time caravan parks on each site have retractable hose reels for Sulage and drinking hoses at each site. Image that...
What are people's thoughts on the hose bags and or the lay flat hose?

Interesting concept Chooka - the van parks having their own retractable hoses (im assuming thats what you mean) I personally would not use these due to hygiene factors. You can only count on how you yourself clean your own equipment.

Now the hose bags or lay flat hoses. As im new to caravanning, at this point i think it would be primarily about the weight and cost factor. I have a normal water /sulage hose currently and they fit fine in the van, they are not heavy and were not super expensive. I am yet to get a hose bag but it is very high on my list. I think the flat hoses (like fire fighting equipment) would certainly save space but at this point im not sure if the cost difference outweighs that? I would be interested to hear others thoughts. :)

Yeh just a thought.. But a few sites we have stayed at 10m hoses pulled up a bit short and one required 22m of water hose and a few about 18m of sulage to reach the van. So off to BCF we went.

Just a thought on the water hose, Masters actually sell it by the metre! $2.50 for the same hose that Camec sell for around $60 for 20m. 18m seems a bit far for sulage though.. :frusty:

Ants depending on your location as we are on the road for 10 weeks and had to buy an extra 15m of water hose and at the time I could only buy a 20m role of Sulage hose. But we will be right if we need 30m of Sulage or 25m of water hose. LOL..

I carry 2 hoses for each type. Both 10m each with joiners. Then i can make them 20m if i need to.
I put the fresh water houses in a hose bag on the spare tyre and the sullage in the chassis rail

I have the hose bag for my standard hose and fitting including B.E.S.T water filter I also have one of the roll up hoses from Flat Out International, I have standard sullage hose cut into 3 sections and use joiners where required, they store in the chassis rails. Power leads roll up quick as on reals also from Flat Out.

I have hose bags for each of my hoses. It makes it so much easier to contain the hoses. I used to have the flat hose but didn't think much of it. The inner diameter of the hose is smaller in the flat hose.

I've had (yellow) flat water hose for about 15 years since they first appeared at caravan and camping show. Mate imported them from Germany. Expensive then, but still works fine, so probably paid for itself. New ones on reel would be even better (easier to roll up). Wouldn't use them for a mains pressure connection though. They're not that flexible when full of water and easily kink.
My sullage hose is in 4 sections with joiners. Like Bushman I suspect, one length slides into each side chassis rail from rear of van. One pce goes into the chassis cross member just behind the drawbar, and one shorter pce in the locker. Depending on site I can run to sullage or garden/trees as appropriate without having untidy coils of hose. My flat hose goes in the locker for filing tanks if I need extension. I also have a drinking water hose with brass fittings which goes in bag on top of spare (held in place by a second Jayco tyre cover).

Same as cootay, great things, keeps tidy and easy to pack away. Two hoses is a must, I recon I've had to use two at least 50% of the time!
