Went down to the Big Smoke today with the Intention of buying a Waeco combo fridge either the CF 80 or the CF110 but when I got there the 110 was way too big and then after hovering around waiting for someone to serve me, I decided I didn't like all that plastic, so I bailed :bolt: and went to the Engel Shop and forked out for a 80litre Combi fridge/ freezer $1749 and they threw in a Transit bag and a Promotional box of goodies which included a 12v cooler some stackable airtight containers and a barrage of other not so useful Items , cap, chair, Stubbie holder ....Oh hang on the Stubbie holder will be useful. Anywhoo I just couldn't switch sides to Waeco I'm afraid I've been an Engel man for too long

I've also got an Engle that lives in the back of the Cruiser its also been in the back of a couple of utes and its never missed a beat.

I also don't think I'd switch sides as I like to stick to what I know :laser:

CG, is it a 50/50 spit between the fridge and freezer?

I have both engel and waeco in 60L size. Each have for and against like the engel won't fit my wifes bottles of bubbly standing up and is allot heavier than waeco, however you have to dig for things in the waeco as it's taller but not as wide as engel. Other than that can't really fault either for performance but I think I'll be selling the engel when we get new van with big fridge!

Cheers.

We've got an Engel in the Prado and it works a treat although I've also got a 60l Trailblazer on the drawbar of the trailer.
Trailblazer is 20+ years old, operates as a fridge, freezer or fridge/freezer and has never missed a beat! Only time will tell.

Hey CG,
i too had the same decision to make, have had the 45 Engel for years in the 4x4, had a waeco 35 in the old camper trailer and both were good, i then looked to increase the size in the 4x4 to use as a freezer on the big trips and came away with the 60lt ARB fridge, WOW what a unit all the best from both of the others and then some, (won the best fridge in 4x4action mag) easy to read digital control at the front not back, the lid comes completely off with one hand if required, sealed like the waeco but with a drainage plug at the bottom to help with cleaning out and they are perfect with the inside dimensions to fit cans length and width which both of the others were not.
Worth a look for anyone needing a new fridge, or as we have used it as a -17* freezer whilst traveling for weeks on end.
Cheers:high5:

Bit like Holden vs Ford, Nissan vs Toyota eh....
Waeco vs Engel....

Whilst I personally don't own one, my parents have a Waeco and my inlaws have an Engel.
We took the Engel away on our big trip and it didn't miss a beat, neither did my mates.
The other mate had a Waeco and had to have the control panel replaced in Darwin when it stopped working.

+1 for the Engels then...

We have had a 40L Waceo for 10 years with no problems but about 3 years back we bought 240AC/12DC gas combination from Aldi and it has been really great especially for bush camping.

Hi Cruza no it's a 42 litre fridge and 33 litre freezer so they might call it an 80 but it's really a 75

We have an Engle, changed after having issues with the Waeco. In fairness to Waeco it was the shitty separate power supply which they no longer use, it didn't like poor input voltages ( brown outs?) also I could see the plastic lid/hinge system wasn't going to last decades. I wouldnt have a issue if I had to buy a Waeco again now and it was certainly quieter than the engle if you had to sleep by it.

We roll with a 40l Engel in the back of the cruiser - basically a drinks fridge and doubles as our "daily" supplies holder for long beach trips.

If anyone is in the market for a new one - I got mine (x demo) from the Engel shop after a camping show. Never been turned on - was used only for display purposes, came with all the extras (plus 2 tiny scratches) and saved $500. You may have have to put your name down for these demo models but certainly worth it. They also have "hire" models for sale but I personally steered away from those.

I've got a 40l Waeco, had it for 9 or 10 years, never had a problem. When it came time to fork out the big coin for an 80l combi fridge/freezer, couldn't go past the engle, far better product IMO.

I have my CF-80 for sale in the for sale section as we simply don't need a fridge that big now we have the Expanda with the 150L. We are going to downsize to the Waeco CFX -50. I like the Waeco product.
