Hi Everyone

We are looking at getting a Caravan Jayco 16.49-3 outback, we are new to caravanning
so were not sure how much we would use it.

I looked on the internet for a company that might bring people together that want to
share the ongoing costs and ownership of a van , similar to timeshare I guess.

Only to find that there is no such company, we are interested in vansharing with another
family and are currently setting up a website that brings couples and family together who want
to own a van , but feel they would like to share the costs.

Im interested to know is there any couples or families that would be interested in this
style of Van Ownership

Regards

Chris

I could see good and bad points for it like not shelling out full amount to buy it.
Storage costs could be shared if both do not have room, would be a problem if one person had room to store the other did not.

Bad Points:
Not sure you can put the caravan in joint names?
May not save on insurance as maybe classed as hired out?
Clashing of dates of use?
Damage?

I know someone who did a share deal on a flat and then 18 months on one of them wanted to buy one for themselves so wanted the capital. Which left the other person having to buy out they ended up selling it instead.

There is a lot of caravan hire places and private people hiring caravans.
For $100-$160 a night depending on season.
I know I am doing the sums now if we have to store the caravan we need to use 33 nights to break even.
We could just hire a different model depending on the season.
Difference is if we have the Caravan we use it more for weekend getaways, I also leave my crap in it which for 4 kids is a lot.

Keep 10 years $37,000
Loose $10,000 off van over 10 years
-$1000
Insurance -$500
Interest on $37k -$2146
Storage -$800
Service -$200
Total Storage -$4646
Total no store -$3846

33 nights needed @$140 if stored to break even
27 nights needed @$140 if not stored to break even
