Hi All
I got a vacuum sealer (external 240v sunbeam type) for xmas and Im wondering how people cook food that has been vacuum sealed. Do you just use them as storage or cook straight from the freezer? I know nothing about them, really wanted one to save on freezer space as we are big meat eaters and to seal our lunch meats etc

Im getting ready for a small trip and have sealed some curries and they look like they could go straight into a pot from the freezer but im not certain....

Let me know your secrets :)

Thanks in advance

Abi

If you mean can you cook them in the bag itself, then yes to a point. We do fried rice etc and tried reheating in water brought up to the boil. Issue was that the seal actually let go and the contents came out of the bag. We us ours for camping and helps to save so much space as soups etc can lay flat while freezing and then stack in the freezer.

I have had the same one for ages. I have also used the sealed packets when reheating or thawing products and stack frozen food in the engel. Also the plastic rolls can be bought from aldi and work well on the sunbeam. Just be careful when sealing liquids or meat with bones. I use mine at home and camping.

I have frozen left over bolognaise in a chinese style take away container then removed once frozen and vacuum sealed. I thawed it out before placing the whole bag in a pot of boiling water. I was concerned with the bag opening but it didn't and the process worked well.

I haven't actually cooked with the contents still inside either.......

I usually get a Pkt of snags & chicken, and break them into meal sizes (there is 3 of us)
same with the Bacon.........
but mainly for the freezer stuff for packing in the Engel

never thought of soups.............

Weve been vac sealing for ages, meat, veg virtually everything that goes in freezer but haven't cooked in the bag to date usually thaw it out first. Bacon and cold meat I make smaller bags to hold just a serving amount.
Can then fit more into the van fridge so they don't take up valuable space in my Engel so I can fit more cold beer.

Also good for sealing your spare fuel/oil/air filters keeping them dust and water free.
