I have a Wineguard TV aerial which with the attachment is pretty good BUT thats only for Horizontal transmissions, Vertical signals unless they are very, very close it gets buggerall. Bundaberg has vertical signal, so I took this oportunity to experiment.
With the roof down and the aerial wound up I removed one of the circlips and pin on the aerial and with a zip tie holding the loose bar and the aerial in the vertical position, all channels on line, experiment successful.

Good result for you then, that's also why they developed the newer ''Snow Flake '' it designed to both, so far we've had good results with ours, in most place we've been. Only drawback of the newer one is the single shaft, very flimsy, learnt that the hard way.

But for those of us with the old units pulling a pin is far more economical..............but watch this space I will see if I can work out a better version.

I did exactly what you did, but replace the extracted original pin with a drop leaf pin. I drilled another hole to lock the antenna in the vertical with the drop leaf pin. Took all of about 10 seconds to change from Horizontal to Vertical.

Haven't tried it yet but if you wind it up just slightly then turn it you should find the aerial bits will be over the side of the van, just have to stand on bullbar to pull the pin and lock the bar then wind up and bingo. Or just play dvd's and forget about the TV, Bunnies will win anyway or Swans if of that persausion.

Can't help it but it is a big pot.......lol,lol.
