I need to replace the Shocks on the rear of my Navara and knowing nothing about this I'm finding it hard to make a choice. Prices range from about $150 a pair for Gabriel Ultra shocks at Supercheap to as much as @500 a pair in other brands. I dont go off Road 4WDing and the only work the car does is towing the van so i'm trying to keep the price down yet get something that will do the job. I have asked around but 4WD shops can only think of suggesting the best shocks money can buy for serious off road work.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi there Jaybird i run a mechanical shop and suggest if you do no 4 x 4ing go for the Pedders Sports rider shocks , they are a firm shock and are suited to towing at a reasonable price + easy to fit ..

cheers Russell

Thanks for your replies, we have a Pedders in a town close bu so will go and have a talk to them.
Not sure what is meant by they get hot towing, I presume you mean physically, so how will I know before buying, do I just take the sellers word for that after I explain the situation they will be used in.
Thanks

Yes mate explain what you do with the Navara ie:towing. Then they will be able to match a suitable shocker that will suit your needs.

When a shocker warms up it affects its performance and they tend to soften up and work less effectively. This is usually only during towing and with cheaper shockers. As BP mentioned look at the Pedders range they have plenty of options.
Let us know what you decide.

Thanks for the explanation. The nearest Pedders is 120klm away as soon as I get a chance I'll go see them and sort it out.
I'll post the results

A good indication is to go for as large a body shock as you can get, this will mean it has a large capacity of oil.

I ended up putting Lovells Gas Legend 2 Shocks on the ute they were easy for me to get from where I live and after research seemed to be getting good write ups all round for the type of work I
want them to do.
Time will tell

Is anyone running dobinsons springs and shocks in their tug?
I'm looking to put a kit in my D40 dual cab to cope with a steel bull bar + canopy going on soon (for every day use don't want it too harsh)
+ Panda when touring (thus fully loaded less often but stiffened up to handle some extra weight).

I run Ironman on both my Patrols and the GU has done a cape trip towing my old swan and they handled it without a problem. I ordered straight from the ironmandealer.com.au web site and its free delivery anywhere in Australia for all orders over $100, so no driving around. No affiliation at all just good products.

I have had both Ironman and on the current tug EFS, the EFS are firmer and much better i think, so much so that i will replace the ones on the new STX V6 i have on order straight away with them.
Good luck
