Hi all,

Just wondering, those of you that have kids and have travelled with a van that has triple bunks, what are your opinions of them? Big enough? Kids like them/dislike them?

Thank you

We have the triples in our 20-63-1. We have 2 kids (only young though) and use the third for our bags when we travel. The bottom one is good because it is at ground level and doesn't pose a fall risk for the little ones to roll out and I have made a screen for the top bunk to keep our youngest from falling/escaping. They are a bit tight for height but I can lay on the bed comfortably.

We just swapped over from a double to triple.. less head room although they have not complained much.
With the double as they could sit up easier they took there crap up into the bunk.
Now the craps on the dinette.. not sure if thats because of lost head room or twins bigger so they play together.

Have you considered a Badestation? Comes standard with one pair of bunks but a second pair of bunks can be added from the factory.
The rear cargo / bunk area has a dividing door so might be ideal when you have teenagers - a little privacy might help keep them interested in holidaying as a family for another couple of years. The layout is also great for bikes etc. only downside is cost and weight.

If you can fit in the triple bunk arrangement then your children will be able to for many years to come. If you have girls then chances are when they have finished growing they will be similar size to their Mum. If you have boys there is a great chance they will be taller than Dad. Generally the bunk beds are about 6 foot or so long. I have a van that has the double bunk and I am anticipating that my daughters will comfortably fit for many years to come and probably when they have finished growing. (They may not want to come on holidays with us any more by that stage). As long as you are not growing a basketball team the triple should do the job.

Haha, no, no basketball team lol. My eldest is my daughter who is 5 and 2 sons 3 and 8months. We have just sold our 2014 Jayco swan and we're always thinking Expanda but now this othe one has come up and we like the look of it just not sure how squishy the bunks would get

ours are 8,6 and two 4's have the twins top and toe on bottom bunk. Eldest is 130cm and fits no problems now.
I fit on bottom bunk fine.. Its getting in and out of bunk 2 and 3 which could get a problem when older. Has a 80 kg limit so I have not tried also I worry I end up like Homer Simpson at the water park and get stuck :)

My only two bobs worth would be to ensure the bunks are at least 6ft in length, some are only 5ft 5" depending on the van, this is one thing that was bought to our attention when looking at bunks vans.
