Hi, I'm a little excited as am getting closer to owning my first outback expanda. Am hoping to be a regular contributor to this group soon.
My q. I found a 2nd hand van I like in North Queensland and was wondering who and how much a transport company would cost to deliver to port Macquarie nsw. It's about 22hours door to door for me. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Stu

Welcome to the forum @Stu Wilson
Can't help with the transport costs but one option a lot have done is do a road trip, pick up the van and use the return trip as a shakedown trip!

welcome @Stu Wilson

I am also for a road trip, take a couple of days off, head up on the Friday, visiting places you may want to see
look at the Van - if it is what they say, and its what you want, then have a leisurely drive home with your new toy

sounds ok in theory though, depends on your circumstances

Much appreciated, thx for the advice. I'm hitting the road for a 44 + hour round trip. Have 6 days break so I may have a van to bring home with me.
BTW, this is a great forum, have found lots of genuine posts to help find my new van. Thx again

Good for you Stu. I'm sure it will be a great and worthwhile trip. Are you taking the family or just doing a solo run? We will be looking forward to some pictures when you get it home

yeppers, always better to look yourself, what you consider major, someone else may consider minor & vice-a-versa

crawl all over it, and pick the living S*&% out of it, you've got 22 hrs to think of reasons why they should be grateful you want to take it off their hands, so dont feel "obliged" to buy it just cause you went on the road trip

@burnsie did a check list once before - I've copied it in Word.......

1) Check all extras are there - Any additional accessories or cables or cords
2) Check for any screws sticking out or anything that is loose
3) Open and close roof and awnings yourself, our roof on one side folded out instead of in, because of the extra wiring for the additional solar panel, they used some extra memory foam to tell it the right way to go...all good now

4) Take notes and ask how to setup everything including HWS, Fridge, Toilet, bed ends and anything else you have concerns about or want to ask a question on.
5) Check all doors (hinges and latches) including hatches and cupboards. We had a couple that did not work properly, one of the service guys came out and sorted it out whilst we were doing the paperwork.
6) Check inside all storage areas (take a small LED torch with you so you can see inside.) make sure no problems
7) Check for correct functioning of all taps and drainage. Get them to hook up the main water and test the pressure and also check for any leaks where the filler comes into the van, usually under the seats backing onto the fridge wall I think in the new 17.56-2 OB, if you do this when you first arrive usually when they plug the power in then by the end it will be a good 2 hours you will get an idea about any leaks from the mains connection into the van
8) Connect up mains water (As Above)
9) Check 12v pump
10) Check all lights and power points 12v & mains.
11) Check gas operation...stove, HWS, etc.
12) Check Air Conditioner works on both Cold and Hot
13) Carefully go around body, make sure there are no dents, cracks, double check the bed end doors as yours will be the new model, on some of the bigger versions some forum members have noticed cracks, worth double checking
14) Check wiring underneath not hanging down. (A couple of cable ties will sort this out so not a big deal)
15) Check TV and Antenna if you got one fitted make sure the wiring for the coax cable is all good

last but by no means least

It was a Sh:-$ box !!! But I found a diamond in the same town.
Thanks again everyone!!! I mean it, some really helpful tips that gave me plenty to think about on the road trip.
I'll add a pic soon. It's amazing the difference between a loved van verses a 'well loved' van
The van I put a deposit on and drove 22 hours to view : owner hadn't taken the cover off in over 6 months, not even to check it prior to me driving so far. I helped him remove the cover & you could tell it had not been washed once in two years, inside or out (2013 model). I expressed concern immediately as to his ad & communication - suit new buyer. We tried to lift the pop top after unlatching and opening awning but it wouldn't budge. I got him to push while I watched from outside. All of the rubber seals had melted together and were now trying to lift off the van. On top of this it seemed the rolled up awning was also melted together or stuck very fast. I looked at my girlfriend, raised both eyebrows in a semi apology & said to the seller 'I've seen enough' 'what do you mean' he asked. I 'loosely' expressed my thoughts and that I'd like my deposit back. I was gutted to have wasted my time, my girls time & our travel costs. We got in the car & had a laugh thinking how unaware some people are. He honestly had no idea, and rang us later asking if we'd consider renegotiating including the comment ' he wasn't desperate'. I bit my tongue and told him there was no price I would pay for his problems. I'm happy to say we got out deposit back & found the most amazing 17.52-2 only 6 minutes down the road. I'll put a pic in next comment.

Hot damn @Stu Wilson it sounds like a real heap. I'll bet you're glad you took the trip rather than buy it sight unseen and even better that you found something else so close. Looking forward to some details and pics of the new acquisition.

Wow. Were you considering the other one? Was it advertised?

Sounds like a good outcome.

Well done...it pays to be careful. Too much money to risk on someone's idea of what is acceptable.

Yes, the run down van was advertised on all the sites. Actually said 'suit new buyer' I think they just thought since they had only used it a handful of times it was faultless. The N Qld sun can do lots of damage w' a dark cover to help. Very happy w' the outcome.
