Townsville to Brisbane - one way trip

Well I've been so preoccupied with the pending move to Brisbane, I have barely logged on since the Airlie Beach weekend!

But we are getting down to the business end of the planning now, with only around 5 weeks to go until we move - housing and removalist date is sorted, and now we need to start planning the drive to Brissy

We've allowed 5-6 days for the drive down - I don't know if we will actually use up all that time, but I know we don't want to 'motor' through too quickly!

The only concrete stop we have set at this stage is a night or two in Gladstone to visit family. Other than that we are looking for ideas on good caravan parks between here and Brisbane please!

Ok so I think we have our itinerary sorted!

Townsville to somewhere in between Proserpine & Mackay (friends property) - for 2 nights

Then from friends property to Yeppoon, Coolwaters Holiday Village - for 3 nights

Yeppoon to Gladstone, visiting family - for 1 night

Gladstone to Hervey Bay, Happy Wanderer Van Park - for 2 nights

Hervey Bay to Brisbane, Scarborough Holiday Village (closest to our new place) - for 2 nights

Yeppoon is nice, we are at the Beachside CP, 2 foot off the beach. Drove past Coolwaters today, looked nice, wish I'd brought my Yak on this trip. Fuel prices here are reasonable . Safe trip.

So after spending 2 lovely nights on our friends property, halfway between Proserpine and Mackay, we have now arrived in Yeppoon after driving for 6 hours ugh!

Kids were pretty good on the drive actually - was a mostly uneventful drive, a few idiots between Sarina and Marlborough that thought nothing of overtaking us right in the path of incoming traffic, and a stuff up at a servo that left us waiting forever for our toasted sandwiches order (they ended up refunding us the $10 and we still got the sandwiches).

Finally made it to Yeppoon and the cracks were starting to show as we pulled into the van park - a car full of tired people lol

Set up was quick and we have a nice, big grassed site, so plenty of room to put everything - will take some pics tomorrow

An early night for all tonight I think - then lots of exploring to do tomorrow!

Ok so I've been slack with posting - mainly cos we've been so busy!

Ended up spending an extra night at Coolwaters in Yeppoon as the weather was so lovely and we were having a nice, relaxing time

Then of course we watched the BIG game on Wed night - QUEENSLANDER!!!!

Then after 4 nights in Yeppoon we moved on to Gladstone for the night - stayed at the Kin Kora Van Park, which was nice and quiet, except for the occasional plane that sounded like it was landing on the roof! Kids thought it was cool though, so we didn't mind

Then pushed through to Hervey Bay, where we are now - at the Happy Wanderer Village. Was a bit tight getting on the site, but they had a guy who got us straight on with the "left arm down" etc instructions thank god!

So 2 nights here then on to Brisbane! We have been freaking out about this "apocalyptic cold front" that's due to hit Sunday/Monday, as we will still be in the van till Tuesday!! So we are going to the shops tomorrow to try and find the kids some proper winter coats (I don't think their NQ light jumpers are going to cut it). I don't know how our heater will go from what I've read on here - I will let you know if we survive!!

All in all its been a cruisy, easy trip so far - loving the ease of set up / pack up with the Expanda!

@Flossymk1 stay there or go north again!!! We are on the "sunny coast" and its freezing already, you will think you have walked into a freezer coming from NQ. I really feel for you, we are heading to Hervey Bay next weekend to catch up with my brother from NSW who is in Woodgate and complaining about the cold and they come from the NSW south coast.

Yeah it's gonna be bad lol - damn all my ski gear went in the removalist truck! Wishing I had packed it in the van now....

It's bloody freezing here in Hervey Bay already! And the "cold" weather hasn't even started yet.... Lol

Before you can blink it will be warm again then we'll be complaining of excessive heat.
