Hi all,

Starting to think about how I will be securing the van once I pick it up.

I like the look of these - http://provenlocks.com/ - the theory being you lock the chains as well as the ball.

Does anyone know if anything like this is available domestically? I'm not sure if the one in the video would actually fit an AU 50mm ball.

Thanks.

I use one of these, and then feed the chains through the hitch handle and padlock the chains

I use a modified one of these, extra bit of plate welded on, the ring bit removed and a rod fitted to use on a Tregg but now with a hitch I can add the chains to it and a high security lock...............................TCL.jpg

with backup if needed.....350px-Model_37.jpg

If only there was a way feed the chains through this lock as well.
Maybe a couple of vertical 'spikes' welded to the rear of the main lower lock body section, and loop the chain onto the spikes as you lift the lock under the hitch to fit it. Once the lid goes on and its locked off, you wouldnt be able to lift the chains off the spikes ....maybe; idea on the fly !

I've also welded off the threads of the hitch mounting bolts so the nuts cant be undone ... pointless having hitch trussed up like a pig when the nuts can be undone o_O

Bit like this security gate

The hitch is too obvious and where just about every locking device starts at followed by a wheel clamp. If your van is outside / front yard where the thief has time to analysis and scope your van I'd be thinking outside the square on any locking device. Remember battery angle grinders are game changers IMO and some of those old school hitch locks you'd be through in 30-60 seconds and anyway as has been demonstrated you don't need hitchs just the chains Orr if they are not available another set off chains that the thief can bring with them?

For mine , number one well insured. Number two go think outside the square yourself ;)
