This is not a scene you want to come across while towing your van on the start of a trip!
4WD and caravan both on their sides and totally wrecked. Plenty of zig zag skid marks for about 100 meters or so.

Good thing is that the occupants looked only badly shaken and being checked out by the Ambos when we passed. Not a good way to start or finish your trip.

Be safe everyone!

Unfortunately I've been to a number of similar incidents on the F3 freeway, one of which was a multiple fatality.

Great add for ESC from the sounds of those skid marks @dagree

Found out how it happened this morning. Someone pulled out from a side street in front of them and he had no choice but to hit the skids and unfortunately lost control.

Apparently a young girl/lady was driving. She and her boyfriend did stop and helped the couple out of the car and called the Ambo's and Boys in Blue. Couple that saw it and stopped reckoned the young girl was in a worse state than the occupants!

tis a shame really, as you say @dagree at the beginning (or end) of a trip

take my hat off to the guy driving the 4x4 & Van

(I think I would have killed the person who pulled out in front of me........... figuratively as well as probably actually)

tried looking on the net - nothing on any of the news sites I could find.............

She might have made a mistake pulling out in front of the van but at least she didn't drive off.
We all make mistakes and good on her for at least stopping to help and give assistance to ensure the other occupants we're alright. :eagerness:

I agree whole heartedly, just that
having locked up my breaks once before from someone pulling out in front of me - and then having to spend $1400 on new tyres
couldn't claim them on my insurance, as there was no accident

I dont lock up my breaks for ANYONE

sorry if this offends some, but......................

Not sure what my reaction would be in a situation like that but guessing instinct would be to hit the pedal and steer in a direction away from the impending impact.

tried looking on the net - nothing on any of the news sites I could find.............

I'm guessing as there were no major injuries (or trafic hold up) that this one probably didn't make the news!

there is all this "blurb" on the news about road toll's, and how the Gov should fix them
the Gov. (WA) wants to put in MORE speed camera's to stop (?) the carnage - especially the 18-25 yr olds........

how about teaching them to drive properly to start with........????????
then
have more - and I mean MORE Police on the roads cruising around
(people still speed when there is cameras around, but they dont if there is a copper next to them)

they have "undercover" Cops on bikes to catch people without seat belts, talking on mobiles etc - just put proper Police cars back on the roads

- side note..........
I followed a guy down Wannaroo Rd - Sunday of Aussie Day long weekend - for about 20kms from Lancelin, never noticed a thing, until a cop car was coming towards us, and then I could see he was putting his seat belt on........
WTF.............

As you steer down the road, look around and visualize " What would I do....if a car came at me there...........blow out on LH steer............... a beast comes storming out on the right etc" being doing that for 40 yrs and when a few scary things have happened I'm out of harms way before I knew it.
Be it sideways down the road in a 50ft coach or hitting a big patch of diesel in the semi, even when the van got hit by a truck the feet and hands had done the job before I knew it, thankfully.
But never look at what could have been, always marvel at what a great bit of driving you did or you may fall off the perch, well if you did the miles I did each week anyway.

We had an scary incident the 1st time out with the new van, driving along a straight road, a car on the site of the road decides to do a U turn in front of us, which I thought was bad enough, but they couldn't get around so they start to reverse back ! I did hit the brakes, and had to go around them onto the gravel - glad we spent the $$$ on ESC as well - didn't feel the van out of shape at all. If we hadn't gone around them, we definitely would have T boned them - not a good way to start a trip particularly on Christmas day ! I honestly dont think the driver saw us until the screech of the tyres.

yes, time and experience are the main reasons there is not more carnage on the road
just wish people would drive to their ability, not what they THINK they can do

had a scary one yesterday on the way to the airport - coming home
had a lot of rain in the Pilbarra, so we had to drive 1hr to another mine site with an "all weather" strip, sitting on 90kms - bus load of miners wanting to go home - little Coaster bus..........
tyre blew out on RH front.......
the guy driving (he had been driving for years and years) bus never left the straight line he was on, came to a stop slowly and with no hassles
he was a bit shaken, but all ok...

good bit of driving....... I will be buying him a few beers when I get back to site thats for sure.........
