I had an expensive bike stolen from Stockton caravan park last night, the bike was locked but thief used bolt cutters, I'm concerned the hobie kayak is more valuable but normally locked with thinner cable, does anyone have opinion on security, perhaps audible alarm or any other ideas?

sorry to hear about your bike mate...........

while away on "holidays" I tend not to leave too much out and obvious at night..........
like a table and towels over the Engel (thats chained to the Van Chassis)
move all chairs around said table,
even if it takes them more than 30 seconds, it may slow them down enough time for me to get out of the Van, or make them think its too much effort to try and steal........

if you have an annex, even better......... but obviously you dont.... as they nicked your bike...........
(cannot print what I would like to say about such people)

best you can do is be vigilant with who is near by....... be aware

I know there is a Cvan park over here, that gets lots and lots of visitors at night, as there is a public carpark just above and next to the Park........

I normally strap everything on, bikes on the carrier, surf ski to the roof of the car.
That way it's not any easy grab for them. Yes it's a pain, but this is life.

Make sure you report your thieft to the local cops. My brother had his bike returned to him 12 months later after it stolen. The crook was doing a wheelie with no helmet when they stopped him.

With my hobie, I put a chain through the mirage hole and padlock it. I try to leave it on the car roof as well.

I use a multi strand cable that squashes with bolt cutters, and a pretty heavy padlock, feed it through my table, weber, etc .
When away with my boat i use a baby monitor, with receiver next to the bed.
Other option is a flood light ( sensor type ).
Have to be careful with what is visible during the days well , as people wonder past , and see the possibilities!

Sorry to hear about the bike, (insurance ?). As @BigSkiddy mentioned, report it, as it may turn up. They may frequent parks and get caught, if police know its regular but can only get a pattern if cases are reported.

This is getting worse too, not limited to any state or town in particular either bloody scum. I chain everything up and run the chain through the wheels and table only because when they cut it it will make a noise un threading it. Inskip point would have to be one of the worst places up here, the police are only in town during the holidays, but last time I was there they came though the camping area a few times a day because its so bad, pity we cant just shoot the mongrels hey.

I chain my Yak to the roof rack or van and my Engel is chained to van and has a window alarm on it that screams the house down when moved, working on a way to fit a window alarm to the yak as well.

I also use the multi strand hi tensile steel cable that is very difficult to cut. Need also a high quality lock that I try to place in a position that makes it very difficult to get to with bolt cutters.
If they want it, they will get it unfortunately. All you can try to do is make it difficult for the ba#%^rds.

I chain or cable lock the camping stuff, and additionally I use ocky straps on the yak and surfboard with the alligator fishing rod tip bells clipped in random spots on the ocky straps .... impossible to undo the ockys without jiggling like Santa, and the more you try to shut them up the worse they jiggle. Just like fishing for arseh0les really, at about $1.50 ea for the bait

We just have really cheap and nasty stuff that's no great loss if people nick it... Move onto the sites where people have Engels, fishing gear and "Hobies" and "Yaks", whatever they are... (assuming you don't actually take a Yak caravanning...)

All jokes aside, probably something I need to give a little more thought to as we accumulate more gear. At the moment we just stack things against or under the van. Except the Weber, it gets chucked in the back of the truck.

image.jpg Hi Shark, I've only had beer stolen out of the Waeco which should be a hangable offence in its self recently. Had friends had things stolen and keep hearing this more and more we go away. So I now chain things up and have today made a movable sensor light to hopefully scare don't be rude out of them.

[QUOTE="chartrock, post: 101934, member: I wear my Commando Association badge in the side window of my truck. I have never had a problem. :p
So exactly how is an association where you don't wear underwear going to frighten them off?[/QUOTE]
