I'm not sure if it may become a common fault, but on Sunday, our rfs crew put out an engine bay fire (totally burnt out from front bumper to windscreen) on a 3 month old jeep towing a horse float and small horse out of Kangaroo Valley. Seems like it was an electrical fault with jeep loosing power and then was on fire. ( horse o.k.) We have put out 2 4x4 mercs in the past so I hope we don't follow suit with jeeps. Barney

More common on vehicles nowadays than you might think, not just Jeeps. I think a lot of times turbo's and oil lines cause a lot of the problems, they just squeeze so much under the bonnet and the apprentice at the dealers forget things.........but then it could be a Jeep thing...lol,lol.

Jeeps have been plaqued with fire problems over the years, thought they had sorted most of them, guess it dosen't take much for any vehicle t o go up these days with all the gear they run.

Remember how common it was in the VW

Our office for the last 8 years has been located over the top of a mechanics premises. Always have a sticky at any 4x4 that's in there old and new. Older jeeps have to have the worst engine bay wiring of any vehicle full stop. The plugs are pure crap and they wire the loom over the top of the V8s so to access the rockers you need to undo the wiring and above mentioned pure crap plugs.

Have to agree, mine has the Mercedes engine, gearbox and wiring which isn't too bad but I hate the fuel line connections, similar to the Fords' very fragile after awhile, I've replaced most of mine. Same fella must do the wiring for Jayco.
