The wheel nuts, try yours.

Tomorrow Swifty gets new shoes.
I had decided I would take the tyres off Swifty and just take them down to the tyre dealer. I decided to start with the spare which is located on the rear of my Jayco Swift. Well, I couldn't undo the two wheel nuts that hold the spare wheel in place. I used a lot of force but could budge them. I even get a length of pipe and they still wouldn't move.
As I have never had a flat on the van. So had never needed to get that spare down. I am glad that I found out at home, rather in some remote spot where there was no help available.
Maybe some others in this forum may want to try theirs before we all head for remote parts?
So now I will tow the van down as originally intended.

My sister couldn't get the spare off her OB Finch either its a 2011 mdl. It ended up a job for the dealer as a warranty problem and once again lucky it was at home. We ended up breaking the tack weld on the stud holding the wheel on after using the big bar method....

Have also heard of another problem for the spares mounted between/under the draw bar.
When someone (can't remember who) tried to undo the bolt that held the wheel in the frame, found that the end of the bolt had been bent over by colliding with the ground. Believe that they had to cut the bolt off with great difficulty and then screwing the remains of the bolt through the other side.
One of the reasons I have mounted mine on a bracket on the rear rectangular bumper.

No, I had a van spare parts dealer look at the rear bumper and it's mounts before buying the bracket.
He has reassured me that it was well and strongly mounted. My van is an OB and has a stronger chassis and rear Galv rectangular bumper. On some OB models, the wheel is mounted on a welded bracket to the rear bumper.
Mine is a bolt on version.

I have had many laughs over the years as a Truckie when folks hit the road and never check the spare, not only on their van but on their vehicle as well, lights, tyre pressures, wheel nuts should be basic checks before departure, during the trip and after the trip. While your at it don't forget to check your jack, does it actually lift enough to get the wheel off the ground ??? Does your wheel brace fit? Wheels and spare, Jayco use differnt nuts on wheels and spare !! How many check the U bolt nuts on the axle ?? áre the washers crushed ?? Check them you could be in for a surprise, don't rely on some Jayco dealer service.............I've also had some tears so check your rigs out.

A slight smear of copper coat will ensure the nut will release when required.
