The long wait begins. We put our order in yesterday for our 16.49-4. :) I would like to thank everyone who helped us make our final decisions on different options with your experiences. A forum like this is a wonderful tool for not only sharing fun experiences but for novices to make decisions on things they don't know anything about. :thumb:

Thanks Tayla
I notice you guys are towing with 2012 ssv commodore. We will be towing with an AU wagon, a big difference between the two but I was wondering how the commodore handles the weight?

Around three month wait but that will give me time to build a carport to put it under.
the options we're having are HWS, external shower, 100amp battery, control panel, bed converter for big dinette, drop jacks, wind up antenna and waiting to hear back from dealer tomorrow about extra weight and cost for under slinging axle which I have no doubt we will opt for.

It does not cost much to do the factory underslung mod. What about extended drawbar? Might be handy. I am still thinking of getting underslung done on ours before we get annexe order in. Wish I ordered it from new. Anyone here got a photo of their 16 underslung?

Others may reply with different reasons, for me it was just in case I wanted to put a toolbox up front and comes in handy for my poor backing skills. I think outbacks come standard with extended drawbar however happy to be corrected.

we also have extended draw bar did not notice much difference from the old expanda but we can tow 3 tonne so may not have noticed the max of 20kg difference just the size of the toolbox and what you put in it might make more of a difference

Good work Ad and Jo, many new memories to be made mate.
Remember the extended drawbar will add weight to the towball weight too.
...but only if you load it up with a tool box and all the stuff you can fit in it. Longer bar should actually decrease the towball weight (it works like a lever) and even slightly increase stability as well.

We have added the underslung axle and also added AL-KO ESC. Can't wait for the end of October to come quick enough!

Congrats. The extended drawbar is one of the few options that is extremely hard to retrofit.
if you are into modding, then the extended drawbar gives you just a bit more space to reconfigure the front of the van. Bottles, toolbox, Jerry cans, bikes..... The list is endless.

as Xpandafan said, the longer Draw bar assists with the weight distribution, as well as giving you the room to "create" how you want the front to be.
it DOES also help with reversing, although watching some I have seen, nothing would help them
hahahahaha (stop it)
the balance of the whole Van setup is better as it is spread over a greater area.
it is worth the extra coin in the long run

good luck, and happy trails........

cheers

Hi Adjo I hope you enjoy your 16.49-4 as much as we do. We have had a ball over the last 12 months travelling and as I read in one of the forums spending the weekends doing mods. My wife calls the van my man shed. I just wish I known about the site before we bought the van because I would have chosen the longer draw bar, TV antenna all those things that are near impossible to do after the fact or just so unbelievably costly you wouldn't even consider it after.

I still have the same problem then there's that issue of not checking something before I fire it off.
