We're planning on travelling around the block for 6 months next year. We'll be leaving Melbourne and heading west (we figure the east coast will be more accessible down the track if we run out of time). We have a small tinny and Rhino boat loader, and we were planning on getting drawers made up in the back of the hilux - one of which would house the boat motor. Just wondering if people think it's worthwhile taking a boat with you - we have a friend who travelled for 2 years and sold his boat halfway through the trip (mind you, his boat was on top of his camper at the time and needed to be removed for setup). I guess the question is, how often do people think there would be opportunity to use a boat, or is the fishing just as good on the beaches? Looking forward to hearing everyone's thoughts. Jacki

I would say leave it in the shed rather than brining it to wa. You will have to get a boat license and also fishing licenses depending on what type of fish you want to catch. But I suppose it depends on if you love your fishing. There is great fishing in wa I fish a lot but i think you will need bigger than a dingy to get out to the spots If you re going to the west just to fish at the places you re going then yes other wise I would leave it home.

You could also consider a few charters at certain places to get your "fix"with the fuel you save?
