Hi to All,
We have been advised through our Facebook Group to IMMEDIATELY cease using the Swift 500 Series Cooktop stove /oven. There is also a notice stating they cannot be Sold, or Hired throughout Australia until further notice. Not sure which manufactures use these but thought it was worth informing people. There is a couple of letters on the Swift site to the effect. Leaking Gas is not what you need in a Van.

Good early pick up @JohngQld ........................ Not the first time Swift stoves have been recalled either............. No mention on the ACCC Recall site yet other than the earlier one...... this one has alloy plumbing, what a wise choice for an RV unit.

Date: 08/06/2022

Due to circumstance beyond our control we have been informed by the ACCC that we need to notify our customer in regards to the Incident that has occurred. Please read the notice below and advise your customers that the Swift 500 series (All Models) are NOT ALLOWED TO BE USED AUSTRALIA WIDE UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. We hope this is a temporary situation, We are waiting on a reply from the ACCC and WA authorities as to what steps are to be taken next. Please be patient once we have more information we will advise through our website. Please be informed the electrical element can still be used.

Swift Appliance Group Pty Ltd is currently liaising with the ACCC, WA DMIRS and Resources Safety and Health Queensland regarding gas explosion safety risks in the 500—Series Caravan Gas Cookers. We will provide more information as soon as possible after conferring with the regulatory bodies. Consumers must immediately cease using the products until tests determine the cause of the explosion and the products are deemed safe.

There is now a recall notice on the Swift Appliances Site showing the model numbers affected but with the manufactured date between 01/01/21019 and 01/06/2020. For those of us who have this model but outside the date range there isn't any further information. You would like to think the Cease Use Notice for those outside the date range would be lifted but I would think that should come from Swift.

From the Swift website comes the following information.
Dear Valued Customers,

After further investigation and discussion with the state regulators, Swift Appliance Group can confirm that:

  1. 500 Series Caravan Gas Cookers manufactured and supplied after 01 June 2020 are safe for ordinary use without restriction.

However,

  1. 500 Series Caravan Gas Cookers manufactured and supplied between 01 January 2019 - 01 June 2020 must not be used while Swift gathers more information.
  2. 500 Series Caravan Gas Cookers manufactured and supplied before 01 January 2019 must not be used except for the electrical elements while Swift gathers more information. Hopefully this new information helps a lot of people who didn't know if they could now use their cook tops even though they were outside the recall range.

In the latest communications from Swift, stoves built before the 1st June 2020 can be used except for the left front burner and only if the the Control knob for the burner is removed preventing accidental use. There is to be a follow up Monday. John

SWIFT APPLIANCE GROUP 02/11/2022
Swift 500 Series Gas Cooker Recall
Website Update / General Communication
Version: Final

Dear Valued Customers,
A remedial process is now available for Swift 500 Series Gas Cookers manufactured between 1 January 2019 – 31 May 2020 (inclusive).
You must:

  1. CHECK if your cooking appliance is a Swift 500 Series Gas Cooker manufactured between 1 January 2019 – 31 May 2020 (inclusive) by referring to the data plate located on the cooker lid.
  1. STOP using your Swift 500 Series Gas Cooker gas appliances manufactured during the above date range until the front left burner control knob is turned off and removed. For further information, please visit the Swift Appliance Group website – https://swiftappliancegroup.com.au/.
  • If you are unsure about the model or manufacture date of their cooking appliance, you must stop using it until those details are confirmed.
  • Once you confirm that your Swift 500 Series Gas Cooker was manufactured during the above date range, you must immediately stop using the front left burner and remove the control knob as instructed above.
  1. INSTRUCT all other users not to use the front left burner. However, the other burners and components are safe for ordinary use.
  1. INSTALL a gas leak detection device if the caravan is intended to travel off-road.
  • The gas leak detection device should be fitted inside a cupboard located underneath the Gas Cooker unit.
  1. TURN OFF the gas supply immediately at the cylinder and ventilate the area if they smell gas.
  • Cylinders can be isolated and disabled at the ‘gas isolation valve’ adjacent to the appliance.
  1. REGISTER your details on the Swift Appliance Group recall registry – https://swiftappliancegroup.com.au/recall-register/
  1. CONTACT an authorised person, licensed plumber, or gas fitter as follows:
  • If you are able to attend an approved Swift Service Agent, please book an appointment. A list of Swift Service Agents is on the Swift Appliance Group website https://swiftappliancegroup.com.au/repairs-warranty/;
  • If you are in a remote area or unable to access an approved Swift Service Agent, please ask a registered gasfitter to contact Swift by phoning 0412 821 912 or emailing swiftrecall@outlook.com for authorisation and instructions to conduct the remedial process.
Please do not allow a registered external gasfitter to conduct the remedial process without Swift’s knowledge and consent.
All registered external gasfitter’s must clearly state their registration number, location and contact details when contacting Swift. Once Swift is satisfied of their qualifications, further support will be provided before the works can be conducted.
For further information or assistance, please contact Swift Appliance Group’s offices by phoning 0412 821 912 Mon – Fri 9:00AM – 5:00PM, or via email at swiftrecall@outlook.com, or please visit https://swiftappliancegroup.com.au/.

Swift has concluded its investigations of 500 Series Gas Cookers manufactured before 1 January 2019.
These units are not subject to the recall and you can use these cookers as according to the instructions for use provided with the appliance.

Hi Everyone,

We wanted to update this forum regarding the Swift Gas Cooker Series 500, that have now been recalled. We are particularly concerned about the spread of misinformation, and overall confusion regarding the recall and its details.

All cookers with the model numbers 502BHSP, 502BHFW, 502RHSP, 502SHFW, 502WBHSP, 503BHSPM, 503BHSP, 503BHSPMLG, 503DHSP, 503,RHSP, 503SHSPM, 503SHSW & 503BHSPN are affected. Those manufactured between 1st January 2019 and 21 May 2020 (inclusive) have been recalled. Swift 500 Series Gas Cookers manufactured before 1 January 2019 or after 31 May 2020 are not subject to recall and consumers can continue to use these cookers as per the instructions for use provided with the appliance.

We now have a remedial process outlined on our website (https://swiftappliancegroup.com.au/), but the most important thing is to please ensure that the front left burner control knob is in the off position, and you have removed the knob and stored it out of children and other users. Once this process is complete the other burners and components are safe for use according to the instruction manual provided with the appliance. Additionally, you can register your details on the Swift Appliances Group Gas Cooker Recall Register.

We have a list of approved Swift Service Agents available on our website (https://swiftappliancegroup.com.au/gas-cooker-recall-register/), who can inspect, repair (where necessary) and deem your stove to be safe to be used for its intended purpose. If you are not able to access an approved Swift Service Agent, please ask a registered gasfitter to contact Swift by phoning 0412 821 912 or emailing swiftrecall@outlook.com for authorisation and instructions to conduct the remedial process. If you are still in need of assistance please contact Swift Appliance Group via phone at 0412821912 (Monday to Thursday 8am to 4.30pm and Friday 8am to 1.30pm) or via email at swiftrecall@outlook.com.

Thank you, Sally Swift

Thank you Sally, (@SwiftGasCookerRecall )for the update. Companies are not normally allowed to post on our forum but the information provided, “straight from the horses mouth” so to speak is worth making this exception. I am not sure how many members are directly affected but lots of visitors to the site may also appreciate the info.
