Special tool required

Hi all
I claimed a damaged fiama awning from work and want to shorten it to fit across the back of my van over the door, basically cut 3 metres off it, it won't roll out as far but will be enough for shelter over the door.....

anyway it's all pretty straight forward except for the internal sprung arms, i've got the springs out and plan to just shorten the cable and then reinstall them ..... but

fiama must have a special tool like a 6mm nut on the end of a cable to pull the spring tight and click it into a locking tab ....... so

does anybody know where i can find/buy a 6mm nut that can be crimped onto a cable end, so i can pull the spring back into place has to be a small diameter to fit thru a hole ?

it sounds like maybe something that you could get that would be used on bicycle brakes maybe?? Not sure if I'm picturing it right in my mind though? Just a thought.

What about the end like a whiper sniper (or smaller type tool), drive cable, perhaps try local lawn mower repairer?

sorted it out .... welded a 6mm nut onto some rod, welded a T handle on the other end, screwed this onto the thread on the end of the fiama cable and pulled it into place pretty easy (well 10 pulls did it till i managed to click it into place).

so i've shortened the arms from 1300mm to 700mm so the awning will only go out about 1.5m, but thats enough for a rain shelter over the door

bloody blokes at work paying me out about how pimped the old van is now .... gotta luv it she's a rare old van and always draws a bit of attention with the stuff added to her

yeah i've got a few snaps of the old girl i'll do a post this weekend

fiamma do make a short awning to go across a van, but they only come out 700mm i'm hoping to double that
