Port stephens is a nice place. Gets stupid busy getting in and out of there at Xmas. The main surf Beach's are back towards the coast but there's bay beaches down the other strip from soldiers point. You'll enjoy it.
Very nice place.
It has indoor heated swimming pool and also outdoor pool. Small bike track for kids, very clean and modern amenities (like 5 star hotels) and bbq areas. It also has an indoor play pen for toddlers which is cool.
It is 100m walk from the bowling club which it right next door through a walk way and across the road is a pub with restaurant.
Cant comment on the beach as never went but across the road is a jetty for fishing.
It is only a small place compared to say Umina beach but we felt that was better for the kids to explore. Very quiet at night time and a security guard patrols around through the night.
There are lots of other places to visit in the area if you want a day out from the park. You can go 4WD at Stockton beach, the kids can sand board down the dunes, go karting is 25min away, nice cafes around.
We did stay in a cabin when we went last year but our friends had a van site. I thought they were a little small but they had a 15ft Coromol, I did see bigger sites further down the site though.
It is one of our favourite places and suits our family dynamics.

We leave boxing day to Coffs Harbour, staying 3-4 nights Sapphire beach, then heading to Main beach in Surfers for a week, then heading back down to Sydney and stopping off for 2 nights somewhere at Valla Beach.
We tried to get in to soldiers point but it was booked out so I decided to drive further on and stay near Coffs to break up the drive to Queensland.

Love Port Stephens plenty to see/do in the area, though haven't been for several years now.

HI Bluey.
We receive a new Starcraft 17.58.3 next week (just in time for Xmas, and shake down) and have managed to secure a spot at Big 4, Soldiers Point for New Years and beyond (8 nights). From all the reviews and Web sites searched, the park looks pretty good. We've stayed in the hotel across the road and there is heaps to do in the area nearby. Hopefully the trip from the Gong to there on 31st won't be too horrid........
