well, it looks like hubby n I are going to be forced to take our long service by the end of next year. Oh damn. Not sure of the time yet, either around the July hols or sept hols, more likely a couple of weeks before the sept hols and a couple after as we will pull the kidlets from school. (Don't want them to miss too much. Plus hubby has to get his students thru their cert 2 in build n construct so the later the better for him.)
I have done a "first draft" map. Any suggestions or recommendations would be good. Noticed thru another thread (@Kenshi123 I think) about the gorges, etc in the middle that sounded brilliant, so will need to re read a few I think.

Just make sure your have enough time I always try to fit in a lot of things in our trips then we end up with a few dead days or kid sick days and the plan is gone :( Ok last holiday I lost 3-4 days with a bad tooth :(
Got 10 weeks to 'spend'. Just unsure how to spend it.

Hey there @Smirke. As a school teacher I can highly recommend taking the kids out of school at least once to experience something like this. The learning is much richer than any textbook can provide! PM if you want some ideas for work they can complete whilst traveling.

The map looks great. If you're going to take a couple of weeks before and after school holidays do you literally mean 6 weeks? If so, then this is a mighty distance to cover. You may find yourself rushing or skipping places. The best answer to this is to get more time off work! Lol

Just my two bob mate. Either way it looks like a great adventure.

The map looks like a great trip. One of the best things you can do is take your kids on a trip like that. We did a few years ago and don't regret any of it. Best thing ever for their education.

Thanks @Kenshi123 . Hubby also mentioned just term 3 or just term 4 off. I want the water to be flowing up north when we go, so not too keen on the term 4 option.
As for school stuff. I've got the older 2 covered with maths (as they will be yr 8 and 10, and that's my area, so no probs there). The other 2 will be yr 4 and 6. Probably just get a few books and get them to do work thru it.
Depending on what we do, we may leave out the centre and save that for another time. I really want to do the top so that is a priority I think. I loved reading your report, so will need to go back over it and jot down a few places. Although I may be checking with you as to whether we will fit. (We made sure we got the biggest van we could because we are a family of 6, and it looks like the boys have been guzzling growth hormones this year.)

Ow. One thing about having slightly older kids, they never want to miss out on doing anything......sick or not. Even my eldest, when he slipped off the van step and put a massive hole in his butt (other boys and hubby thought it funny and were saying he had a 2nd butt crack......boy humor). He was still out and about mucking around

Looks like a great trip @Smirke but just one thing missing on the list....... ME :p
Get some of my LSL back late 2106 so hopefully 2017 will be a similar trip for us :D

Actually your map would almost be a carbon copy of our trip when we get to do it!

Heard via the grape vine I've got term 3 off next year!!! Must start planning. Need to decide whether to swap car over before we go :) plus possibly find a new house to move into>:(., then there's the kids schooling to organize. Decision, decisions, decisions. Think I need a holiday. Roll on next Friday!

Yep! First is to get out of town. Then either relax, or go on a chocolate and cheese finding mission to calm my anger.

Well, not just one.....3 of them I think. Hopefully someone's heading down next weekend that can tell and show me how to disable demolition equipment.....or is a lawyer and wants to represent us, out of the goodness of their heart.
