Hi All,
Been enjoying reading others new van threads while we waited for ours and we finally have it so here's our thread.

We previously had a swan which we loved but got major caravan envy every time we went away but it's all we could tow with our old van. We had a big trip planned for christmas to go up to Queensland for a couple of weeks but 7 days before we left a massive tree branch fell on to it smashing the roof and one of the bed ends. After an afternoon of panic thinking our holiday was ruined we managed to pull together some emergency repairs to our baby with a bit of alupanel, some plywood and a heap of sikaflex we were back on track. We had a great holiday and everything held together but when we got back and found out how much had to be done to fix it and how long it was going to take, we bit the bullet and ordered an Isuzu MU-X and an expanda. The guys at Jayco Nowra and Nowra RV centre took the swan as a trade in with the insurance claim which allowed us to get the new van ordered straight away.

So now have a beautiful huge (compared to the swan) 20.63-1 with triple bunks, bed converter, extended draw bar, ibis air con, control panel, washing machine tv antenna and gas bayonet. Picked it up yesterday morning and spent every spare moment in it since. I was nervous towing it as this is the biggest thing I have ever towed but did fine, the MU-X might light work of it and averaged 13.4L/100 from Nowra to sydney which I though was great. We'll be taking it out for an overnighter tomorrow to test it out. So far I am stoked with it, we chose this model for the ensuite, the massive lounge that slides out and the fact that there was still heaps of room even though it has an ensuite and massive lounge. There is so much storage, there is empty cupboards left after putting all our stuff in and it seems to be really comfy. I can't wait to use it, I am sure we are going to have plenty of great holidays with it.

Congrats really nice van/tug combo (interested to hear more on the MU-X) and welcome to the forum. Now, you'll need to tell everyone here of your mods youve done and the ones you'd like to get done. Oh, I know your a little handy as you left the evidence showing on the benchtop in one of the pics.
Did anyone else spot it? Cheers Pace.

Is it the washing up sponge?

Thanks every one,

ahh yes the dishwashing sponge, I was using it to clean my multi meter haha.
No major mods yet, was just putting in a 12v lead and plug to run various 12v stuff. My multi has a thermometer on it as well so I was using that to test the fridge temp.

Took it out to pacific park overnight for a bit of dirt bike riding. Everything went great, 5 minutes set up 10 minutes pack up, great for 1 nighters. So happy with it, we managed to get a lead to a power point so didn't give the battery much of a test but gave the air con a good work out. We managed to get go through a full tank of water in less than 24 hours so need to work on that. The shower is better than I thought it would be, without trying to save water managed to get a 4 minute shower before hot water ran out which I think is pretty good. Question for someone, can you run the hot water system on gas and 240 at the same time and if you do, will it heat up quicker?

As far as planned mods, I don't need to do much but:
I was thinking about installing some sort of indicator on the thermostat of the hot water system that tells me when it has heated for when we are all sharing the shower.
I'm going to put a 12v tv on a bracket, the dealer told me the wall is reinforced there.
I need a 12v plug outside.
I did want to try and get my dirt bike on the draw bar but I doubt that will be possible with the tow ball loading that I have been allowed.
I saw somewhere on here someone stored their outdoor table in the bed boot, looks like a great idea and my table fits in there perfectly just not sure if it is recommended.
I will also install a solar panel at some point.

I have never tried it but I'm sure other members use gas as well as 240 to heat the water.
we usually get all 3 kids showered in one go and then put them to bed. The water has re-heated by the time it is our turn and we usually both get a decent shower out of one tank. From memory I think it is about 20 minutes to heat up.

Great looking van and you could nearly fit the swan on that drawbar! Some serious real estate there.

G'day Ryan7, nice van, we have the same and are very happy. As far as the hot water goes, we have run both gas and 240v at the same time and most of the time it gives us continuous hot water. We have had four showers back to back with no time limit and still had hot water at the end. Depending on size of table it should fit in the bed end. We do the same but put one of those outdoor floor matt tiles behind it to stop any damage.

Can you tell me how the bed converter works? We have the slide out also and our table can't be removed without unscrewing from the metal base.

Cheers Andrew

That would be perfect if the hot water works like that.
The table fits in the bed end fine, I just wasn't sure if it was a bad idea. I asked at handover and I got one of those "I'm not going to tell you you should do it" type responses. I was thinking exactly that, a bit of foam floor tile at the base and behind then maybe sikaflex some loops at either end to put a strap across it, it will be quite secure.
The bed converter works by removing the the table top and the pole, the pole has tapered ends and fits quite snuggly into the base plate and under side of the table, then there is a separate panel that slots in under the cusion. We didn't really need that option but thought it would be good for the kids to spread out for the odd movie night. I will get some pics for you when I get a chance.
