after reading a post somewhere on here a couple of weeks ago, or months-I can't remember now, I went out and bought a seagate wireless plus. All was going well until I transferred the movies over. It didn't like the avi or mkv formats, so after downloading a conversion app I thought I had it sorted. Extra long story short, now the iPad cannot connect to the seagate to see/stream the movies, but they hook up to its wifi ok. I have tried deleting everything, reformatting, etc, but I need someone to tell me what to do to get it to work again. In basic, normal talk. Please, I'm desperate!

I am watching this with interest. I have also bought the same after reading a post on here and can't get video's up on iPad. We have wasted hours trying to sort it out. I will also need it explained in simple speak.

I was going to take it to someone to sort it out but is is expensive for something that could be a quick fix with the right knowledge.

I found it needed the movies in MP4 format. Luckily Apple have a free app that converts them, but then I never got the chance to see if it worked.
I did delete the sample pics and movies. My main concern is that I deleted something important as well.
Fingers crossed someone can help us both!

Hi guys
Sorry can't be of much help but had similar issues with our voyager air when we first got it. in the end it was simplest to just convert all the movies to mp4 format and it has worked great since then on all our devices.

For those with windows machines "Handbrake" is a great free open source conversion program. Kodi is a good free media app for android devices and although i have not tried it a friend of mine uses nplayer on his ipad and says it is ok for some of the other formats as well.

seagate have a support site here where you may be able to get some answers.

Hi @Prm . Took mine back to Harvey Norman today and asked to guy to show me how to hook it up. After a bit, he couldn't do it so got a new one....just in case. The new one worked straight away. I hadn't done anything wrong. He said it was probably a faulty one. Gave me the new one, so I am now converting all the movies into MP4 format so they play. (That will probably take me months!)
I suggest you do the same. Take it back and get them to show you how it's done. It has a 3 yr warranty. (Have a movie in MP4 on your laptop so they can transfer it onto the seagate and then have your tablet there so you can see it play. I did, and that's how we saw it worked ok.)
Good luck. Hope you have a happy ending like I've had.

Glad you got it sorted. Yes the conversion process to mp4 does take a while but once done will allow any device to connect without trouble. Handbrake supports batch conversions so i just told it the files i wanted to convert and let it run for a couple of days non stop.

The apple app, believe it or not, isn't too bad. I still want to keep the original downloads in the format they are in, as they all play on everything we have. Done about 12 movies so far. Only another 600 odd to go!!!

Anyone new to handbrake may find this page of some use when trying to set it up.

If you are like me and want your movies displayed in the browser with cover art and content ratings etc. then you will probably want to get a program to edit the meta data as well. On windows I use a program called MetaX (costs about $10) but there are free alternatives too for both windows and mac.

We use the seagate plus, I just downloaded VLC media player onto the kids iPads and conect to the hard drive via it. Works a treat and saves having to convert the movie files with handbrake, just drag and drop. Hope this helps.

Didn't even think about that @Spider73 . Got VLC on the Mac, will try it this afternoon after work. So far have managed to do all the kids one, but the mum/dad ones are taking a while, as the kids watch the hard drive every night instead of normal tv.

Sorry the kids have just informed me ours is the western digital. But vlc recognises it as a local network. I assume it would see the seagate aswell.
