Tried our hand as sapphire mining did not do too bad getting a few cutters appraised

Bit sad but a good few of the gem shops and some food outlets are now closed for the summer no worries getting van sites as most parks are nearly empty, the businesses that are open are really going out of their way to welcome any visitors, this is not a bad summer destination as you are not far enough west to get the bad summer heat but you are also far enough from the coast to miss the humidity and not get tangled up with cyclones , plenty to do and friendly people

Of course, most shut down late Oct, the RSL shut for campers now till about March with the bar open on Sundays......... thats what I like about our place, nice temps, no cyclones and rarely have humidity.

Just to let you know I sent my sapphires for cutting to Thailand got them back a few months in the height of corona very happy with the quality sent them to Lamberts in Silom
I do have their card, I bought a few bags of gem wash home, my diabolical plan is to let the girls find their own jewels on Christmas Day, my wife is beginning to think I am getting a bit odd, but I know that is not entirely correct

hi again just a question ,did you sent all your rough gems over and let them pick the cutters ? or did you pick the ones you wanted cut ? the reason i ask is that a lot of the gems in cluster jewellery are very small , and i may think they are not worth it, but they seem to produce some good cuts out of jelly beans which are small but clear, i am also looking at going to a local lapidary club to see if they will tumble clean my rough finds

The lady at gemfest in ruby vale told me which ones to send to Thailand and I sent them and they cut them I will go back next and hopefully find more , I have all different sizes so haven’t thought yet what I’m going to do with them but very happy with the cut and shape of them, took about 2-3 months during covid, aust post lost them for a month at Tullamarine didn’t help, however I did send a couple of extras I thought would be ok and they send them back without cutting lol , I had star sapphires and good one and garnet all were rough when sent

thanks, i will get the local gem club to look at them for me and advise, a use for the non cutters, my daughter sets them in resin as drink coasters and platters the resin actually makes them look bigger,i dont have any here at present to show when she does some more i will send photo, she also uses opal chips and matrix they look good Rubyvale is on our 2021 wish list possibly 2 weeks this time, buying the buckets of wash has given us a bit of fun when we got home, with family members scratching around finding bits and pieces
