Road Trip

We are picking up our new van Wednesday next week and are taking a 2 week road trip back to WA. We were going to just start heading straight home but am considering looking at spending a couple extra days in Victoria.

Any suggestions on what's close to Mildura of interest and shouldn't be missed?

We are leaving Mildura lunchtime Wednesday and going to head to the Barossa Valley to spend two days, then two days in Streaky Bay, two days travel across the Nullabor to Esperance where we were going to spend three or four days at Cape Le Grand national park. Then to days home.

This leaves us a couple of days spare so any suggestions?

Worth having a look at the lock at Mildura, the old Wentworth Prison and where the Darling joins the Murray.

Where are you staying in the Barossa?

@crackacoldie not sure yet but seeing as your a local any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Somewhere where there is good Chardonnay

With kids, I would stay at Tanunda, they have the jumping pillow and pool. Not much of a Chardy drinker, I like solid reds, but there are certainly a pick of wineries in the area.

TANUNDA = Agree with Tanunda which happens to have a fantastic little brewery pizza joint across the road!

MILDURA =

Worth having a look at the lock at Mildura, the old Wentworth Prison and where the Darling joins the Murray.

We stayed at a little place called Gol Gol Cvan park which was a cracker nice pool and the staff were awesome. Where the rivers meet was quite a sight also!

WEST COAST SA = If u had the time i would recommend following the coast around the Eyre Peninsula but i understand re time lines. Streaky Bay is a great spot! Check out the replica of the shark caught in the bay at the local servo! U 'may' never go in the water again!!

All i have to say is if u can take a bit more time off DO IT!! U will regret it later!

I remember staying at Tanunda and Streaky Bay as a kid about 20 years ago on our big trip the Eastern States. They were both good back then (from what I remember).

Handorf is also a nice spot. I haven't stayed there, but stopped for lunch and put it on my must stay list.

Thanks guys. We are all getting very excited now. I am trying to get everything sorted at work so that if we decide to extend the trip we can. There is so much to see but there is always the next time.
