Hi guy'n'girls

I posted this on another forum so thought I put it here too.

Do we have any professional tree loppers here, living/working in northern NSW (New England area) or Southern Queensland, would need to be fully insured and equipt to bring down very large gum on a vacant residental block that as neighbouring property one side.
I had 2 rediculous quotes or they just couldn't be bothered to go look at it.

Can't help you but they do charge ridiculous prices. Especially for something like that. I had a storm damaged one lopped a while back and it really hurt...
I asked them to lop one branch off a gum next door (with permission :)) and it took as long for him to string a safety line in that one, as it did to cut the whole of the other tree. It wasn't as high as yours.....
Plus the allowance for indemnity would be huge - meters from a house, and a railway line. They are covered, but will still charge for the 'risk'

The railway line behind is disused now, aparently 25+ years since the last train ran there, though the station about 400 mtrs down the track is maintained and used as a resturant and the Country Link bus stop., I'm think of asking the local S.E.S if they like to us the tree for a training exercise.

That's one huge tree... is it on your land?

Yep it's a block we purchased back in late 2011, got it well under value as it was a Mortagee Sale, there was 8 blocks all up some of which a local builder grabbed, as we dont live in the area I just pay local contracter to mow it from time to time.

our neighbours had one removed from the vacant block next to them. I think it cost them $1500. Was a similar sized tree

@Bushman We just had this tree removed from the backyard of a house our daughter and family have just purchased. It was a monster and very little room around it but the guy up in the tree spent more than 5 hours up there using just the spikes strapped to his legs and a rope looped around his waist plus, while there were branches above him, he had a harness to hang from. He had two other men on the ground to lower cut branches, cut them up and remove it all.
One large lower branch extended over the roof of the house next door and the owner had asked the previous owner if he would have the tree removed but the guy said no as he was selling and did not want to spend the money but he gave the OK for the other owner to pay to have the offending branch removed. He then got a quote for $660 to have the branch only taken out but we happened to get a quote from the same lopper who quoted us $2200 to remove the lot but then asked the other owner if he would still pay the $660 and he agreed so we had the tree removed, costing us just $1540. We were happy with that.

Good price. The insurance premiums are high as. Plus equipment and safety compliance. My Dad learned from sleeper cutters and could do miracles with just an axe. I used to teach SES blokes to use chain saws but wouldn't tackle a big gum like that myself. Dropped a large one at a school once and I slightly misjudged it and left a foot wide eucalyptus stripe straight down the wall and windows (nothing damaged). Onlookers were suitable impressed but I just about wet myself watching it in slow motion.
Paid nearly $2k for a couple of big trees in my front yard (where the Panda now lives). Picked the guy from the phone book and when he turned up he looked like a cross between a hillbilly and a lumberjack with beard almost to his waist. Was magic watching the guy at work though. Dropped trees bit by bit into very small footprint.

You're right @Xpandafan they are fascinating to watch. I spent the day watching him and taking movies as well as photos and the guy asked if he could have a copy of the movie. He reckoned he would not show it to his wife as there was one bit where he was swinging free on his harness after he removed the last of the top hamper. :o

Hey CR great work on pics, it is fasinating watching those blokes sometimes, I remember staying at Tuncurry a while back (pre Expanda) we went out to the shops only to return to a bit of commotion in the park, and 2 of the roads to the site roped off, and saw a heap of people looking skyward, a branch in a large gum had snapped of in the wind and was hanging straight down over a couple's Jayco Swift, Park manager had called the local tree lopper, he arrived 2hrs after the call (finishing previous Job) jumped out of his truck pulling on a harness looked up the tree, comment was "only a baby" wrapped the other piece of the harnes around the tree and virtually walked up, dropped a rope back to his mate and pulled the saw up chopped and lowered the offending branch and a few other was all over in 15 minutes.

Maybe you better send me that guys number I'll see if he's willing to travel.

One of our neighbours had a tree cut right back a couple of weeks ago - similar to above - lots of mulch for everyone in the street!
