Hi all not quite 6 months in with the 17.58.3 now a few small problems one reasonably large concern on the poptop skirt, there are pieces of vinyl coming away from the skirt and inside the vinyl there are what appears to be some type of reinforcing, anyone had this problem and what was the solution to fix the problem?

to me it sounds like the vinyl welding is coming apart on the sleeve that is formed to take the flexible strips that help the skirt hold shape when open. As above if it is new take it back.

Hi Brad, MD569, yes new, picked it up in Dec 2014 have taken the van to the authorised service person for my area (coastal nsw) and explained the problem inquiring about solutions for the fix and so far I am not wowed with his service. I hope if it is a vinyl welding problem that it can be done in situ without removing the skirt.

Is the authorised agent the only one in the area @TerriD ? If so, I'd be contacting Jayco direct and give them some feedback on them and ask if there is anywhere else to take it!

Hi @dagree, yeah this guy is the only one close to me, I bought the van from Jayco Orange NSW approx 6 hours drive away, I suppose I could take it Newcastle,(1hr away) I didn't buy the van from them as the deal they were offering was extremely poor. If the worst comes to the worst I will take it back to Orange I have full confidence in them. They were absolutely brilliant through out the purchase right through to delivery and after pick up we were so pleased we would definately buy from them again.
Regards TerriD.

Maybe others on here can give you some feedback on the service at Newcastle regarding warranty work @TerriD ... After all they get reimbursed by Jayco so it's $'s in their bank and it might save you the drive?

@TerriD Its likely the these elastic bows that are inside the sleeve to cause the skirt to fold in when you lower the roof. Its a pretty common problem to pop the sleeve if the vinyl welding isn't done properly in the first place ... these things put constant pressure on that welded sleeve. I had two go on my poptop, one ripping a hole to the outside world. Jayco replaced the entire skirt

I have seen on the forum repairers other than Jayco outlets that are authorized repairers. Jayco may have some other companies you could contact.

Thanks @dagree @Brad and @Crusty181 for your assistance it would pay me to research Newcastles service , I have full confidence in Jayco standing behind their product, I just love this van so I won't begrudge it a trip back to Orange if that what it takes, but hopefully it won't come to that.

Gyday ,
Hard to say without a pic but If it's delaminated the pvc back to the scrim? There is not alot that can be done to properly/neatly repair without removing the skirt (unless you flip the van on its side to feed it into a hf welder...) however the pvc can be glued nearly as good as a weld with loctite 401 or 406. Pvc can also be hot air or wedge welded but this is better suited to wider welds than fine lines.
It doesn't help that the pvc used on pop tops and awnings is not the greatest, there are a lot better fabrics that would perform greater to the task and handle more punishment/flexibility .
Just my 2cents worth as I've been in the canvas and synthetic products industry for 22years.
Hope you get it sorted.
