Hi,
I am on the hunt for a portable toilet to fit in the portable toilet compartment in our Penguin.
The size of the pace is 330mm high x 390mm wide x 450mm deep. The space is ideal for a Porta-Potti Qube 145 or 345.

The best price I could find for the 345 was around $150. Does anyone have any experiences or recommendations on what to buy, what to avoid and where they have found a good deal? Aldi had one recently, but it was too big to fit in the compartment.

There is also a Dometic 972 that will fit in the compartment. Has anyone any experience with it?

cheers
Mike

Get the one that fits the area where it's to be used or transported.

Some will be far too low, but it's easy enough to find something to use to lift it up for comfort. (We used a cut down plastic crate and it worked well..and the crate was used for carrying other stuff when not on loo duty)

They're all pretty much the same in functionality.......just use napisan or similar, plonk it on a stand if needed, and empty it regularly.

If you've got a good spot to transport it safely, that's half the battle.

Hi,
we ended up buying a Thetford Qube 145 which fits perfectly in the little cupboard under the bed of our Penguin.

Thanks @Dobbie. That got me looking at the many threads on this forum, discussing the use of Laundry Boosters (equivalents to Napisan) where the active ingredient, Sodium Percarbonate, is about as effective as the Thetford product but way, way cheaper. Better still, since it is granular instead of liquid, there is less chance of damaging spillage. The highest concentration of Sodium Percarbonate is in the one sold by Coles which costs $2.50 per kg. Woolworths and Aldi have similar products, slightly more expensive and less concentration of Sodium Percarbonate.

So much great information abounds on this forum!

cheers

I don't think the concentration differences of the generic napisan are too different but I haven't "researched" the different ones for years. (Research ---- standing in the supermarket trying to read the small details in the packs--- while scratching the head)

but I can say that it works well ...better than the Thetford. We found the pink and green stuff stained floors if it leaked.

Another trick is to add an extra spoonful to the loo if you can't get to a dump point...it keeps it manageable.

and welcome to the brigade of intrepid travellers whose priority, when visiting a new area, is to look for a suitable dump point before doing anything else!

( we are currently in the Whitsundays ....the most beautiful place...but decided on our location partly influenced by dump point location......sad, isn't it?)
