Parking on front lawn & what to park on?

Hi All,

I am pretty sure it is legal to park a van on your own property but I wanted to check to see if anyone has ever had any problems?

I've been parking a 16" expand on my front lawn (next to the driveway) on grass. But since I'm upgrading to a 20.64 I was thinking i'd ask as this thing is going to be almost 8 meters long and much taller.

My neighbour is pretty cool but I know she finds it ugly so I try to keep it as neat as possible.

Am also thinking of putting some pavers down (as concrete is seen as a hard surface by council and requires council approval while pavers are considered landscaping and doesn't).

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks
Chris

If it's 100% on your property should be fine.

You can't park on the nature strip, and unfortunately now you have a van that's over 7.5m long, you can't even park it on the street for anything longer than an hour.

If you can fit it in the area inside your fence, you should be ok but I'd definitely do the pavers as the van will be much easier to move on a harder surface........it'll get very messy and muddy otherwise, as you no doubt know.

and put on some sort of locking device, if you haven't got one already. Can you add a hidden cement block with bolts to chain the van wheels? I meant to do that but forgot till the concrete had been done. :(

There's a thread with loads of possibilities for securing it....do a search and you'll be inspired if you missed it.

As for the neighbour...yep, it's a good idea to keep her onside but essentially, it's your land so she can't really complain.

Check you do not have something cray like we do on our section 32 caravans, trailers or boats have to be not visible from the front.
Hence I have 2 big gates you can just see the van over, Also makes it more secure. although I would of rather dug out the front lawn level and put it there rather then loosing back yard.
Our section 32 also forbids enclosed fences pool gate stuff ok not 100% enclosed.
We had no van when we brought so did not think about it at the time.

Great feedback - thanks. I'll check section 32 but am pretty sure it just says I can't have a front fence - nothing else as long as it complies with council etc.

Great idea about the block - I'll see what I can do - will need really heavy chains though.

I have till march till I get the new van so lots to do :)

Thanks for the replies..

Chris
