Morning

I'm new to the forum but am amazed how detailed and helpful the tips and hints are... It was one of the reasons we bought our new ob...... It really helped cut through all the sales crap that's out there

So with the first post - I'm thinking I'll put it to the test

We've just taken our new gypsy on a road trip to meet friends in Byron .. The good lady, 2 kids, and another of their mates thrown in for good measure... We've mixed it up a bit... Bush camping, powered sites etc we've so far stopped off at karuah ( nice weekender) treasury beach ( great spot ) and at Coffs along the way. The van is going great as expected. The clan are having a ball

Planning on returning to Sydney on Monday but are struggling to find a recommended bush / beachside overnight Sunday spot around port Macquarie area ( give or take an hour or so) and not too far of a detour from the highway
Preference is to camp by the beach to be honest

Any recommendations ?

Slainte !

Tony , 2 suggestions Trial Bay at South West Rocks is a nice spot, operated by National parks or alternatively try Point Plomer near Cresent Head where you will find both a private camp ground and also a National Park camp ground.
Maybe a bit busy particularly Sth West Rocks due to the school holidays and a long weekend
Enjoy the trip

2nd vote Trial Bay. Get a beachside spot. You may be OK on Monday as it's the last day of long weekend.
Also, welcome! Lots of great people on here to help in any way.

Trial Bay has an overnight spot but at $43 for two adults and $10$ eachfor kids it is expensive. And there were no hot showers.
We stayed there til about 9pm and went to Paddys Rest area on the highway to sleep. Was a bit noisy but okay.

oh we can be very helpful - only problem you may have is that most are already away for your long weekend - or are stuck in front of the TV, for some minor random program that happens once a year

unfortunately, I cannot help you as it has been many many years since I was on the east coast

but hoping you can get the answers you need - @BigSkiddy may be on the money though, instead of the beach (which will be crowded), that other place may be the ticket

cheers

Actually @tony k we stayed at a spot just north of Lake Cathie. No facilities. But is on the beach. Here's a screenshot of where and a link https://goo.gl/maps/PyA1v8pXj4k

Guys

Txs for the options and the warm welcomes

Looks like some great camps - been to trail bay - magic spot.. Heading back there in December for a week long stay

Might give lake cathie or maybe paddys a try

A sundowner will help make the right decision I'm sure

Chat soon

There is a great free camp at Bulladelah, no facilities but a walk across the bridge to town will get you toilets. It's not near the beach but it is on the river although it may be a bit far south for your plans.

Problem is the grey nomads are all over that one.
I reckon the nomads should go home on school holidays. Give us taxpayers a chance to enjoy things :)

Point plomer what a great spot? We were there last sept holidays and it was only half full! Not enough glitz around to occupy the modern punters I think? This was while crescent head was packed. But it is on a dirt road I think or is that further south?

Mate I agree and I much prefer to stay home over the school holidays purely for the reasons mentioned, extra costs, crowds and leave for those that need to go then. Happened that this time, 11 weeks away, we had to overlap somewhere,:behindsofa:

I must admit, if I'm going any where, and there will be school holidays on - I stay home

exceptions are Xmas - and occasionally Easter
