Oz tent vs annex

Hi all, we have the 14ft expanda 2015 Model. When we got it we decided to try it without the annex but really miss it as the roll out awning is no good in windy weather. We have got the privacy screens and was thinking about getting an oz tent just for extra storage which is what we used the annex for on our last van.

Has anyone tried an oz tent as part of their set up? Just don't know whether we should just spend the extra money on a proper annex but it will be double the price. The oz tent apparently sets up in 30 seconds so quicker set up.

BCF sell a sort of add on tent to a gazebo.

It attaches easily to any side of a 3m square gazebo via the cross bar...same as horizontal bar on awning and is a sort of dome tent.

Easy to set up, not as strong as an oztent but we have one and sometimes use it in rainy weather to put extra bits under cover. Works fine.

From memory it was around the $100 mark a few years ago but that could have changed. It packs up into a small bag whereas an oztent, while a great tent, has to be carried on a roof or in a long ute tray.

Just another option.

Yes it is heavy and bulky BUT!!
it does stand up in 30 seconds (but takes about 10mins max to put in pegs and lines) (not really necessary if you are not expecting heavy wind)
and it will stay standing in monstrous winds, it has no equal IMO

I remember @Capt. Gadget had a setup with a oztent at either end of his awning for his older kids. Hopefully he can put up some pics for you.
Ill see if I can find some I have a mate who is an upholsterer and he made some wedges with rope in one seam to fit in the track of the Ausie traveler anti flap bars and the other side has a zip that attaches to the caravan awning for the Oztent

We've had an oztent and totally agree they are a marvellous tent! Ours was more like a 90 second tent and was roomy, watertight and altogether great.

But they are expensive and you need to really sort out how you carry it. Ours was always wrapped in a tarp which we used as a groundsheet under the tent itself and carried on the roof rack .....it always looked like we were carrying a dead body so it became known as Grandma.

All that aside, you do have good shelter under your awning so the other one from bcf would be easy to attach when necessary and a hell of a lot easier to carry and loads less expensive. Not as sturdy and not as waterproof but it depends on your needs.

I know oztent were selling special pods to attach to roof racks so the tent could just be placed in that and the pod closed ....that would work if they still do it but, again, a lot more expensive.

Have fun with your investigation.
