Just thought I'd let everyone know about a breakdown I had in my Ranger today, 2.5 hours roadside near PT Pirie in SA. My ranger is a 2012 with 81000kms, regularly serviced although heavily used. I blew a heater hose losing my coolant and the car went into limp mode. The hose in question sits under the fuel filter and due to a design flaw, rubs on a fuel line, eventually wearing through. The mechanics told me this is a common fault with both the Ranger and BT50, being the fourth they have had this week and it's only Tuesday. The fault is so common that they cut out the damaged section and put a joiner in as there are no replacement hoses in Australia.

I will post up some pics a little later, as after a 16 hour day I'm a little buggered. The quick fix to stop the rubbing is to tie the heater hose to the lower radiator hose.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Cracka

Where is @Soaring when you need him?

Thanks for the heads up, I will check mine. You would not want to be in limp mode for too long with no coolant.

Some pictures as promised

The first being the worn section that was cut out.

The second is the repair, under the fuel filter, filter removed, looking down from the open bonnet.

The offending hose is no.6 on the drawing, highlighted in purple.

A permanent fix, of the fault happens within warranty period is a warranty issue, because they don't have the parts available and I can't park the car up for a few weeks, I have had to pay for the temp repair.

Getting our BT50 serviced today, I mentioned the hose issue and they are going to re clip the hoses. I had to ask about it otherwise I doubt if they would have checked it. The other annoying issue we have is a rattle at idle on the passengers side. Was advised not uncommon, baffle or heat shield works loose next to auto tranny. They need to use bigger rivets for the fix. If your BT50 or maybe Ranger has an annoying metallic/rattling noise then that's what it is.

Just went to check mine and it has a foam rubber sleeve/spacer? to stop it rubbing.
Edit,
Looking at yours pics again, yours has the same sleeve but mines where yours has rubbed through and the joiner is.

Rework done, much quieter now.
