Yep we are being touched up in NSW, the expanda that I picked up in Vic that had $49 rego cost $360 to rego up in NSW,a car that was due for rego in NSW we transfered up to Qld rego as that is were the daughter is now living went from $1200 TO $649 in QLD.
But be wary if you think you will save heaps of money in the future on your van, they may reduce the rego cost but I don't think it will be more than 25 %. It is more about incresing the rego on the 150000 or so box trailers that currently pay no weight tax. If you read the discussion paper and see the figures on caravans and trailers you may also get suspisous

That is absolute daylight robbery!!!!
It's not like the van (or anything else for that matter that is towed behind a vehicle) can use the road with out a fully rego'd vehicle as well.
IIRC my Expanda was just under $50, as was my boat trailer, jetski trailer and 6x4 box trailer (that actually doesn't even need to be rego'd, but it's easier for others to borrow it).

:eek-53:I thought $150 was expensive, aint nothing on $449 @Bushman

How is the state justifying the expense?

Damn good question, I don't know about other states but is NSW those who are entitled to some form of pension (e.g. the seniors)
get free rego on 1 vehicle per person, you only pay your green slip and normal insurance, so you have a retired couple for example register the tug in one name and van in the other and you have happy Nomads.

Doesn't justify slugging the rest of us though, I don't know how self funded retirees get on, guess they get slugged like the rest of us.

But as CR said

It's a government department. What's to justify. :frusty:
