Hi all,

We had our first free camp over Easter at Camp Cobark, about a 2.5hr drive from Newcastle and 34km from Gloucester on the Scone road. There is plenty of spots to choose from along the Cobark river that stretches 5 kilometers at only $15/night/site. The main camp ground has toilets and showers at $20/night, bunk house accommadation @ $15/person and offers horse rides @ $60/person.

If you don't stay at the main camp ground (like us) you need to be self-sufficient. Our group consisted of 6 vans, (including a 4 tonn Kedron with 350kg ball weight) I must say the other guys were very organised as they are regular campers at this spot. They pumped water from the river using a 12v pump, I couldn't believe the efficiency of this pump, only 17.5L/min and pumped water through a hose about 120 feet long with filter....it was able to fill our tanks straight from the river! They also had a camp shower, again with its own 12v pump and mixing water from beer kegs heated by the fire for just the right temp and these guys also know how to cook awesome meals in camp ovens!
Plenty of wood to be found, the guys had a secret spot.....an old saw mill :)
The river was a bit cool but refreshing and very clean, we had a great weekend at this spot and can recommend 100%....we will be back!

Hey @Burnsy , we were at Camp Cobark at Easter as well but I think on the other side of the road through 2 gates. (In the paddock named 'Rush'). We camped for 9 nights unpowered without any issues at all. It was great weather to produce solar power. We have been going up to Camp Cobark for years now, generally Easter, June long weekend, July or August and September/October school hols. Our girls go horse riding all the time and at just $60 each for a 2hour trail ride through the creeks, rain forest, open paddocks etc it is worth every penny. The owners are fantastic along with their workers and others who volunteer to help out around the horse yards. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for a great family camp.

Hi @Burnsy your trip looks as if it was absolutely brilliant, did your tribe do any horse riding and if so how did they go? did they enjoy it? and was it worth it? Love the photo's it really looks like the sort of place we've been looking for. We see you have given it a top recommendation so that's good enough for us.

No horse riding this time mate....maybe next time, great spot though. We've never been away in the van and gone to bed so early, it always felt a lot later than it was because it was do dark....averaged around 8.30-9 pm but was up fresh as a daisy! :)
