Noisy Neighbours

Had the chrissy holidays at a Mid North Coast caravan park and had a neighbour who was a pain in the butt. At 1 in the morning he would put his radio, put a bottle in the microwave for his infant kid, and cook a feed for himself on the barby after defrosting in the microwave. This happened on most nights of a 2 week stay, with only 4m in distance between us and him we started getting the s---ts, Im sure everyone has had problems with these once a year campers, with no respect for the other people around them. Any hints on how to deal with the noisy camp neighbour?

Move to another spot or another park. At the end of the day your on holidays and it shouldn't be ruined by someone else's inconsideration or a personal confrontation. I have even burnt the cash for the spot for peace.

The first approach should always be the good neighbour approach. Let him know how much noise he is making and that it's waking you up. Heating up the baby's bottle is fair enough but generally if you point out that he is having a morning fry up under your bedroom window most reasonable people would stop.
If that isn't enough to make him stop you take it to the rangers, if that fails then look at leaving.
I had some rowdies near me this Christmas and fortunately all it took was a friendly word and they apologised and settled down.
It doesn't always work but most people want to be good neighbours but are a bit ignorant of life in a caravan park.

Well said icetechaus We have found this approach normally works with reasonable people. We go away for peace and quiet but it seems this is not everyone's idea of a camping holiday. Loud music is our biggest issue. I can understand wanting a little music every now and then. We have speakers and might have it on softly, or pump it up for one or 2 songs at appropriate times, but I cant understand people that pump music out all day at excessive volumes so that everyone else has to listen!? Rant over. Thanks for letting me vent....

Tried the friendly approach.....
One of the 'owned' sites at Wangi Point had a older couple who liked to entertain their friends each night. She would sit on the deck built infront of the permanent van, in her monster large chair, and all her guests (and husband) would sit in a semi circle on the road before her. It really looked like she was Queen Muck holding court with her subjects. Unfortunately she had a voice that would peel wallpaper and over talked everyone else.
One night 'cousin Gary' turned up and his voice was even louder and swore like a trooper. Friendly requests were made to turn it down a bit (not by us), and even the security guard came at 10.30 and asked to to be quiet. His answer was "Don't f*****g tell me what to do. I've only got f*****g so long to live. I'll f*****g do what I want and everyone else can f*** off." That didn't tend to go down too well with everyone else.
On another night, my eldest was feeling crook and took herself off to bed at 8pm or so. Once the gathering started I went over and explained that my daughter wasn't feeling well, and would they mind greatly if the level of conversation could be kept a bit softer that night. She just glared at me and snapped "Its not 10 yet, is it?!" I said it was just a polite request, thats all. Boy, she got cranky. All her subjects (who we had gotten to know, and had been offended by Cousin Gary) kept their voices down for us and toddled off to their vans a little earlier than normal. But we could still here hear her calling after them to not worry about us....

Unfortunately there is always someone thinks that they are more important than everyone else. The only way they can be dealt with is mass exodus or at least a writing campain by everyone else to the management of the park.

Kids don't bother me, youthful exuberance n all, plus camping for me is up early with thei kids, go hard all day, then earlyish to bed.

It's bogans I can't handle...foul language,up late drunk etc. I'm big enough n ugly enough to tell them politely and firmly to tone it down. Most back down when confronted firmly and politely, just make sure you don't bring it down to their level...if they want to escalate, know when to walk away, then wait to the next day, when they aren't so obnoxious, tell them they were out of line...they are usually apolgetic n embarrassed by then n no more probs...but if it persists, escalate to the rangers or park manager.

Well Said - Absolutely agreed... Kids up early, can't do anything about that and I will usually take them off to the playground etc. And then get them down early'ish so that grownups can sit round and share war stories - Quietly'ish :)

I guess i'm just used to our kids not getting up untill 7-7.30 as they are now 9 & 11 and then they tend to entertain themselves with the cousins, at least untill we pack up and head up the beach!

I really love the once a year Wallys who love walking through your site!

Stereo wars - Barry Manilow, Cliff Richard etc for the bogans, Status Quo for everyone else!

Did you know that there are certain breakfasts that involve large pots and pans that for some reason happen to clang together oddly enough when the younger ones want to sleep. :)

Our kids 3 and 10 were told to keep quiet early mornings for the 1st week, then it was respect people on the other sides and do what you want behind the van. I also had a winge to the managers who kept him in line for one night, looks like where rebooking next year on the same site so I look forward to his company next year with a few ideas from the enterprising people at this site, Thank you.
