Hi all,
Planning a trip from northern Victoria to Gold Coast next week.
Has anyone travelled up the Newell Highway recently or who live between Naranderra and Dubbo who can advise on the flood situation?

Thanks davemc,
I have been watching the live traffic app which shows where the Newell is affected. Doesn't really give any info on how deep the water is where it is over the road. I have heard from a B Double driver that there is water on the road just north of West Wyalong.
Good idea to check the grey nomads forums.
If anyone has traveled the Newell over the last few days I would be interested in hearing from them to check the current conditions.
Cheers

Ring the shell servo at west wyalong should be able to give you information. We came back 6 weeks ago and lots of flooding with this recent rain wouldnt take much to flood. The gwydir river ? Near moree threatened to flood

I used to run the Newell Hwy regularly, I found the NRMA and RACV or local coppers were the best for info on the roads, with flooding around West Wyalong and for the Moree to Gundy sections the local coppers were the best, as they had the latest info others tend to give hearsay and out of date info, the locals know whats going on.........the main thing is when it's wet along that stretch you head east to get away don't head west or you will find out about black soil country.

Also try to get recent info I know when we where in NSW we where told Longreach was mud do not go in. I checked wiki camps when closer and said was ok now so went in and park was dry although you could see where the mud was and hardened.

Look through wiki camps near the flood zones see what people post as well

Not forgetting this mob for weather alerts.................http://www.ewn.com.au/
Hi,
we just drove up from Melbourne to Gladstone over three days, Last Saturday, Sunday, Monday 17-19th September over the
Hume, Newell, Leichardt, and Dawson highways.

We found the NSW RTA site to be very accurate:

http://m.livetraffic.rta.nsw.gov.au/Default.aspx?r=REG_ALL

In Queensland, there were ample signs showing the condition of the roads ahead and they also were accurate.
But not much use until you are on the road.

On the Newell, one small detour, near Gillenbah, and several other places with water over the road.
On the Leichardt, many unmarked floodways with around 100mm of water between Goondiwindi and Miles.

kindest regards
Mike
