Hi all,
Just a quick one for those who have been through the process of ordering a new van.
What level of contact do the dealers tend to have after placing an order?
I have seen some of you posting drawings of your prospective vans and that looks great!
Ours isnt due until august but just curious how often I should expect to hear and what it should entail

Cheers Will

To be honest we didn't hear from ours for months. They said there is nothing to tell you... We only heard from them when they had a confirmed transport date and tentative pick up date.

Our new van is also expected for delivery in August
Our sales guy was quite good and explained that we probably wouldn't hear from him for a few months unless we had some queries in the meantime. This is the process he explained to us.
Once we signed up they enter our details into the system for a build run.
Closer to the production run the order goes into 'green' status where the dealer will get in contact with you and send you floor plans and a spec sheet with all the standard inclusions and extras you have ordered for you van.
A week or so later we go and sit with the dealer and go through all the finer detail with exactly what you get with the van ie model number of fridges, air con etc. The order is in 'yellow' status which is our final opportunity to add, change or delete anything.
The dealer sends all of this (signed off floor plans and specification sheets) to Jayco and it is locked in.
The order then goes into 'red' status which means everything is finalised and they are ready to start the build. Once it hits 'red' you can't change, add or delete anything.
Then the next contact should be arrival at the dealership and a booking date for inspection and collection of your new toy:D:D:D

Then the fun starts with all the great mods compliments of all the members on this site:clap2:

Hey @willobee based on our dealings so far with Caravanland (assumed you got it through them as you are based in Perth) have been great, haven't really heard or seen any bad comments about them, the salesmen we are dealing with (Ken) is great and responds quickly and with the info requested, always happy to have a chat about the van or where you are going to take it.

As per @Robbie Reddog post the process is fairly straight forward.

the countdown continues........... :)

We too are dealing with Ken at Caravanland and find him most helpful and pleasant.
Might have to pay another visit after reading this forum and seeing a few more things I just have to have:).
Whoever said they would be good for spending our money was right.Note to self STOP reading.

We bought our van from page brothers in Victoria and our salesman grath also told us about the green yellow and red light system , grath was fantastic to deal with as was the guys who do the hand over of the van. but the lady in the service department who answer the phone is so rude to deal with and we will never take the van back there for service or to get anything fixed we have found a moblie guy to service the van and does warranty work approved by Jayco

yeah, when I was dealing with Caravanland (Ken was our salesman) I found ANY of the Sales guys willing and able to help if Ken was busy
some of the girls they had answering the phone - well, enough said - it was a couple of years ago................maybe they have moved on, or found out exactly what it is they sell there.......

now that you have said (?) it @Robbie Reddog I remember the colour coding
and the phone calls
and the visits down to Caravanland

aaaahhhhh the memories...................

We were lucky with ours.... No need for the communication as we saw the van before buying!!!!!!
It was ordered by Caravanland for floor stock but never made it to the yard :D

If doing it again we would probably order as there are a few little things I would have changed!

In general chat with Nick (salesman) he also mentioned the wait and process of ordering and did mention that once the van was about to go to the build stage it was too late for anything else. Unless it was something that could be done by the dealer on delivery.

After placing my order the next call I received was 'come and get it'.

Actually I did get an email about 2 days after placing my order with the confirmation of the build from the factory.

Sounds like you may have been dealing with Brisbane Camperland. I, too, was told about the 3 colour system but only after I phoned to find out what stage we were at. Very few phone calls were from them to me unless I had rung to speak to Mark. He was usually "with a customer", not in the office or away for a few days. He would almost always ring back but not until at least the next day. The van does not go there for service, I have a local service agent who does a great job.
